I am one of the pastors of Home Street Mennonite Church in Winnipeg, and we knew Pete for almost 20 years. He had a wide circle of friends, and he will be dearly missed by many for his kindness and warmth, his welcome and hospitality, his storytelling and great sense of humour. We held a gathering here in Winnipeg on Thursday, October 12, to honour Pete’s life and to share memories of him. We will be thinking of Pete’s family and friends as you gather for the wake and burial ceremony this weekend in Dryden. May the Creator’s care and comfort be with you.

I just learned yesterday that Pete had died. I know him from my work at West Broadway Community Ministry in Winnipeg. He will be remembered by us for his gentle spirit, his amazing sense of humour, his dedication to his partner, Karen, and his philosophical outlook on life. Pete always had time for others and he stood up for those who were having difficulties. He was honest to a fault. My condolences to all of his family. I know he loved you even though he was unable to show it at times . Pete has a place in my heart.
