Pamela Jean Haessler

September 13, 1951 – September 11, 2022

Pamela Jean Haessler boldly went on to the next life on September 11, 2022 at the end of her journey with cancer, with her husband Klaus by her side. Pam built her life into one full of wonder, laughter, creativity, faith and giving.  She was a fiercely loyal mother, wife, sister, Oma, Auntie, and friend to many.

Pam was born on September 13th, 1951, in Ivy Cottage, Stanley near Wakefield, Yorkshire in the United Kingdom to parents Derrick and Barbara Hiscock (nee Jordan). Her family immigrated to Canada in 1957 and she grew up in Winnipeg Manitoba and Dryden Ontario. The oldest of five children – and the daughter of avid animal lover – Pam had a big heart, and an endless well of compassion for people and animals. Her childhood home, like the home she later created for her own family, was often crowded with people and pets.

Pam joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints in 1977 and met her husband Klaus through the church. They married in 1978 and Pam became a dedicated mom and active member of her faith community. She believed strongly in a loving Heavenly Father, a friend and Saviour in Jesus Christ and the importance of creating a loving family home. Her faith gave her great comfort throughout her life. In addition to her four biological children, she took many more under wing – you would often find friends of her kids who affectionately called her their “second” or “adopted” mom.

Pam was deeply creative. She loved to seek out the weird, fantastic and wonderful in art, music, films and stories. She enjoyed writing fiction, drawing, painting, beading, crochet, loom knitting and especially making holiday decorations from scratch (with extra sparkles). She believed in the goodness of people and was a passionate advocate for seeing more justice, kindness and care for the vulnerable in the world. She supported many charitable causes locally and internationally and she was an integral part of many online discussion groups (where she was often known as “Jeanne”) supporting survivors of trauma and mental health challenges.

Pam was an amazing writer and communicator, with many pen pals throughout her life, and was known for consistently writing long, detailed letters/emails to an impressive number of relatives and friends. Her way with words will be greatly missed. She penned stories and poems and found great healing through writing journals. She loved to laugh and took great delight in terrible puns and jokes.

Long before Pam began to battle cancer, her health gave her ongoing challenges. Instead of becoming bitter about the lemons that life and genetics gave her, she rolled up her sleeves and made lemonade. She was determined to make the most of out life and encouraged others to do the same. She never let the opinions of others stop her from being herself. She was determined to show up authentically in life and empowered many around her to do the same. “Who says I want to fit in? Normal is boring…”

Pam has joined her mother Barbara, father Derrick, brother Chris Jordan, sister Donna Fox, best friend Heather and many beloved pets in the afterlife. She leaves behind her dedicated husband of all 44 years, Klaus Haessler, brothers Mel Hiscock (Dee) and Trent Hiscock (Cheryl), her children Rebecca Joy Haessler, Mark Haessler (Liana Murphy), Lisa Haessler (Derek Grizans), Laura Tellberg (Ryan), grandchildren Liam and Rylan Tellberg, and beloved nieces/nephews: Jennifer, Deanna, Nikita, Skylar, Aaron, Leah, Kate, Megan, Ian and Mackenzie, and extended family in England and Australia on her side of the family. She is also survived by her husbands large and loving side of the family, whom she adored, always enjoyed visiting and wished she lived closer to.

Her funeral service will take place Monday, September 19th at 3:30 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Sandy Beach road in Dryden, Ontario. Visitation will take place at 2:30 pm and refreshments will follow the service. A zoom link be available for those who wish to attend remotely, please contact lisahaessler@gmail.com for the link.

Interment will occur in the Thunder Bay area on Tuesday, September 20th

Pam was one of the greatest and sweetest people I never met. I wish I could have had the opportunity in this life. She was a soul sister to me. We both loved our Creator and the weirdness of all. We chatted online many times just amusing one another or offering support. She encouraged me many times in my creativity. She was a tremendous help to many people in a support group created for the ‘broken’.

Pam, until we meet again, dance gloriously up in your HEAVENLY HOME
