With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Gordon Priebe with his wife Linda by his side. Gordon was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan and raised on the family farm in Flowing Well where he worked as a farmhand and briefly with CP Rail before heading to Ontario.
He moved to Dryden at the age of twenty-one with twenty dollars in his pocket and a case of beer and stayed with his sister Florence and her husband Gordon. He worked at the paper mill, then after some correspondence with Doreen Deobald, he went back to Saskatchewan where they dated and married. They moved to Dryden to start their family. He worked at the Dryden mill until 1975.
Following Doreen’s passing in 1980, Gordon met and married Linda Lang (nee Unrau) joining together into a big, blended family. He worked at Hoey McMillan as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 2002.
Gordon and Linda always opened their loving home to family, friends, and raised many foster children. They enjoyed many summers at the cabin on Route Lake, his favourite gathering place. Gordon was a man of few words who found joy in the company of family.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 44 years Linda Priebe, brother Bob Priebe (Carol), sister-in-law Colleen Pike (Bill), brother-in- law Bruce (Trish), children Bruce (Lisa), Scott (Melany), Richard (Lauren), Melony, Rob (Nicole), Chris (Shana), grandchildren Oliver, Violet, Shainah (Andrew), Tyson (Jaime), Abby, Elliotte, Carter, Cooper, Todd (Kaitlyn), Natalia (Sam), Michael (Sam), great-grandchildren Dawson, Jackson, and Avery, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by parents Richard and Minnie Priebe, wife Doreen (nee Deobald), siblings Florence Smith (Gordon), Alma Stoppler (Frank), Wayne, daughter-in-law Shawndel, and brother-in-law Brian (Rita).
As per Gordon’s wishes, there will be no service.
Donations in his memory may be made to Dryden Go-Getters Seniors Activity Centre at 84 St. Charles St. Dryden, ON P8N 1L3, or by email at drydengogetters.receptionist@gmail.com
