Alice Finch November 2, 1929 - January 14, 2023

Date of Funeral

April 29, 2023

The sweetest little mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother has passed from her family here to her family in heaven.

Alice was born in Dryden and grew up in Waldhof and Vermilion Bay.  She was a widowed mother of two, Doug and Carol, when she was introduced by a friend to a handsome blue-eyed divorcee named Jack.  Jack had four children, Reg, Chris, Muriel and Syd, the three eldest of whom lived with him.  When they were married they had an instant family of 5, all 8 and under.  A few years later they had Shirley followed shortly by Arlene, and their family was complete.

If life wasn’t hectic enough with seven children in the house, they also started a business, J.H. Finch & Sons.  Alice worked in the business doing the bookwork in addition to caring for her large and energetic family.

Alice and Jack were inseparable and Jack made sure they had lots of fun.  After Jack retired, Alice got her dream home on the lake where they spent many happy hours fishing and hosting family and friends.  They loved road trips and as they got older they travelled all over Canada and the US in their motor home, often in the company of their friends Mel and Sandra Altenberg.  They were always having some adventure and meeting the most interesting people.  Alice particularly enjoyed their trip to Churchill to see the polar bears where she took some amazing photographs.

Alice lost the love of her life in 2005, when Jack passed away.  In 2021 she lost her eldest daughter, Carol.  She was also predeceased by her parents, her step-father, her son Doug and many cherished family members.

To know Alice was to love her as she never had a bad word to say to or about anyone.  Her diminutive size belied the size of her heart.  She was always cooking, knitting or crocheting some kind of treat or treasure to present to family and friends.  She will be greatly missed by her children Reg (Linda), Chris (Audrey), Muriel (Kelly), Sydney (Cathy), Shirley (Marcel), Arlene (Wes) and son-in-law Rolf, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and newest great great grandchild Quinn.  She will also be missed by her many friends and extended family members.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who provided superlative care to Alice in her final days.

Cremation has taken place.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Vermilion Bay Lions Hall.

Interment will follow in the Waldhof Cemetery.
