Solange “Sally” Selman June 27, 1942 - April 27, 2026

Date of Funeral

May 8, 2026

Solange (Sally) was born in Pine Falls, MB on June 27, 1942, to Joseph and Emilia Vien.

She was the first-born daughter of 8 children. Sally grew up in Fort Frances until she left at 17 to marry the love of her life, Carl in May 1960 in Dryden where he worked at the Dryden Paper Company. They later decided to make Dryden their forever home.

She worked at the Central for awhile in the kitchen until they were expecting their first child, Linda (born March 1961, spouse Stuart), then David (born November 1962 – deceased Jan 1, 1963), Carla (born December 1963), and Colleen (born May 1970, spouse Rhéal). Sally started working at the Dryden Hospital as a Housekeeper in 1971, later becoming the Supervisor of the Housekeeping and Laundry until 1984 when she left to take a couple years off after she had welcomed her first grandchild, Alana. She went back to work in 1989, then another granddaughter, Alyx (great-grandsons, Rowan and Remi, spouse Clinton), was born. She retired in 1999 when her grandson Stephan was born. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers Edgar and Arthur, sister Dorise, as well as many other numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

Through the years, Sally enjoyed line dancing, knitting, sewing (making nighties and pajamas for her grandchildren), and many other things. She enjoyed doing hook rugs and ceramics among many other crafts.

In their retirement, they enjoyed camping, fishing, blueberry picking, and going on casino bus tours together. Mom loved to socialize with family and friends and would always make a beautiful dinner for special occasions. She loved to laugh, make others laugh and joke around with friends and family. It wasn’t easy when she lost her husband in 2013, she spoke about him often about how much she missed him.

You will now be together forever. Your 3 girls will miss you Mom, we love you.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Doiron and the lovely staff at Princess Court for their compassionate and loving care.

A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Dryden Community Funeral Home with Father Mike Mahoney officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Princess Court DECO, Box 953 Dryden, ON P8N 3E3 or to the Second Chance Pet Network, Box 343, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z1
