Richard rode off with an angel on a Harley from his home at Princess Court, Dryden, ON.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, George Edward (Ned) Carroll and Margaret (Trist) Carroll.
Richard is survived by Aunt Joyce Closen, Sioux Lookout, Uncle George Trist, Dryden, too many cousins to name plus many of his biker family.
Richard attended school in Sioux Lookout and then graduated from Dryden High. During his school years he worked at Harley’s supermarket where he made many friends with his helpful, pleasant attitude.
After high school, he went to work for CN Rail as a bull cook and later at the Dryden mill, where he worked under several different owners. He worked in various positions, until he received his millwright papers.
After his retirement he journeyed with friends to work at Spud Plains Farms in Manitoba. This was a very different experience for Richard, but he enjoyed the time he spent there each year.
In the late 80’s Richard graduated from four wheel vehicles to Harley Davidson’s. The first was his burgundy beauty, then an anniversary edition springer and finally a Dyna trike. During his years of traveling on those Harleys, he participated in many special local rides, toys for tots, ride for sight and more. He also traveled much of Canada and the USA. He had a special bond with his biker friends.
Some of Richard’s favourite things – spending time with families and spoiling their children and pets (dogs & cats), his own Rotties were the meanest looking but nicest ones. He loved watching the wildlife in his yard, especially the deer, don’t ask for hunting privileges there. His favourite holiday was St. Patrick’s Day, his Irish heritage always showed through as he dressed the part and partied like a true Irishman.
We would like to thank all those that took special care of Richard since January of this year, the doctors, nurses and staff at Dryden Hospital and the staff and residents of Princess Court. They welcomed him into their family, and he really enjoyed his brief time there. A very special thanks to Sharon Robinson as she welcomed her long-time friend “Ritchie” into Princess Court. She took him under her wing, encouraging him to get walking and to participate in all the events.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Wabigoon Hall with Velma Henderson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, come and share your memories of Richard with family and friends.
