Marilyn Gayle Bakala (nee Johnstone)
March 28, 1953 – February 17, 2018

Another Angel gets her wings.
Marilyn was a kind, generous, and loving person, who loved to volunteer and was always ready and willing to help others. She touched so many hearts, she will always be remembered, and forever missed by family and friends.

Marilyn was born in Thunder Bay and raised in Pearl by her parents Arnold and Fran Johnstone along with her siblings Carol, Bill and Doug. As a teen, her family moved to Dorion where they lived in the Railway station. Marilyn’s insurance career took her to Dryden in 1992 where she met and married the love of her life, Karel Bakala. Marilyn’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her son Billy, grand kids Hogan and Harlow, and her little dog Bailey.

Marilyn loved to garden, as those who had the chance to visit her when she lived in Richan could tell. Karel spent many days helping Marilyn make their yard and garden “just a bit bigger”. Although cancer forced Marilyn into retirement from Gillon’s insurance, she still dropped by to visit with special treats for the staff. Marilyn’s battle with cancer was long and hard but she still found the time and energy to visit and encourage other cancer patients.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Karel, son Billy Hoard (Helen), grandchildren Hogan and Harlow Hoard, sister Carol Calewart, brothers Bill (Sherry) , Doug (Mina), brother-in-law Jim (Holly) Bakala, nephews Justin, Jason (Erin), Brad (Madi), Kelly (Ashley) and Gabriel.

Special thanks to sister-in-law Holly for all your countless hours spent with Marilyn and helping the family through this difficult journey.

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Marilyn you were always our treasure.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

A Memorial Service will take place at the Dryden Full Gospel Church on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Velma Henderson officiating.

Interment will take place at a later date.
