Loretta Wice June 4, 2022 - October 3, 2022

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the family of Loretta Clarissa Marie Wice announce her peaceful passing on Monday, October 3, 2022 with family at her side at the Dryden Regional Health Centre at the age of 84 years old.

Loretta will be lovingly missed by her daughters, Brenda Miller (Murray) and Sandra Chambers, cherished grandchildren William (Erica), Darren (Veronique), Rebecca, Beverly, Natasha, Rachel, Curtis and Kyle, and great grandchildren Reggie, Cashton, Miya, Andre and Madison. Loretta is survived by her sisters Joyce McGinn, and Shirley Froese (Cornelius), Kelowna, brother Richard Wice, Edmonton, Aunt Clara Volk, Saskatoon, along with many cousins. Also left to remember Aunt Loretta are numerous nieces and nephews. Loretta was predeceased by her parents Anna and Russel Wice, loving partner Harold Green, son Ronald Hawthorne and brother-in-law Paul McGinn.

Loretta (mom) was born in Dryden, ON, June 4, 1938, she went to school and lived in the Dryden area her entire life. At a young age she loved to go to the hall dances, she worked at the St. Regis Bag Factory where she met her first love Allan Hawthorne, together they started raising their family in their farm home on Richan Road and cabin on Thaddeus Lake. Some hard-working years followed at the Dryden Tree Nursery where she acquired many life long friends. Moving to Eagle Lake in the 70s, Mom met Harold Green and became employed by the Andy Meyer/Northshore Tourist Camp, she was well known as a dedicated, kind, caring and fun-loving kitchen helper for over 30 years. The owners, Chris and Tom, embraced Mom as family up until her passing. While living at Eagle Lake mom helped many family and friends with child care in their time of need. Mom and Harold enjoyed the outdoor life together including fishing, berry/pinecone picking, feast cooking, and attending their grandchildren’s activities. Throughout the many years she became a respected elder of Eagle Lake, volunteering countless hours for community events and a helping hand to those in need. She was a founding loyal board member and current member of the Dryden Native Friendship Centre. Following Harold’s passing, Mom moved to 10 Victoria Apts. in Dryden where she embraced and rekindled old and new friendships, attending many social activities and events until the pandemic of 2020. During the pandemic restrictions, ways and means of socialization turned towards close friends and neighbours watching out for each other, many daily family phone calls, a lot of reading, word puzzles and great television which Mom very much enjoyed along with her incredible positive attitude for life.

Mom will be forever loved, dearly missed, and remembered for her absolute love of life, friendly nature, huge heart, and jolly soul, along with the all the love she had for all her family and friends, until we meet again.

The family would like to sincerely thank all the Health Care providers involved in her care at the Dryden Regional Health Centre, Dingwall Medical Group, Paramed Home Health Care and the Dryden Native Centre. We are truly grateful.
