Kenneth A. Hatfield February 19, 1948 - February 18, 2026

Kenny passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2026, surrounded by love and family just one day shy of his 78th birthday after a long and courageous battle with COPD and CHF.

Kenneth Alan Hatfield (Ken, Kenny, Papa, Poppa) was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 19, 1948, to Kenneth V. Hatfield and Marie Celina (Bourque) Hatfield.

Ken will be lovingly remembered by his beautiful wife Glenda of 30 years. His children, Jeff (Pauli) Hatfield, Crystal (Jamie) Fair, Michelle (Sam) Loveday and Derrick (Sarah) Sawdo. Grandchildren, Macey, Dulcee, Sidney, Peyton, Kaleigh, Alex, Ryan, Cooper, Aaron, and Brody. Great-granddaughter, Lilianna. His sister Ellen (Alex) Parker and brother Wayne (Eva) Hatfield. His sisters-in-law, Vicki (Wayne) Jewell, Colleen Brunetta, Randi (Ray) Gladu, and Diana (Lauri) Kangas.  His brothers-in-law, Don (Patti) Roth, and Jamie (Tina) Roth.  Lifelong friends, Martin & Donna Dykalski and Ray & Lucille Dickey. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ken was predeceased by his parents Kenneth & Celina. His father-in-law Don Roth and mother-in-law Vi Roth. His brothers Nelson and his younger brother Paul. Sister Alice (John) Kennedy. Brother-in-law Dennis Scott. Lifelong friend Wayne Triskle. Nephew Ryan Brunetta.

At the age of one, Ken moved from Nova Scotia with his mom and dad along with his sisters Alice and Ellen to the big island (Hatfield’s Island) on Perrault Lake.  Born a few years later were brothers Paul and Wayne. About one year later they moved to Camp Robinson where his father was employed as a carpenter/scaler for the Ontario Minnesota Pulp and Paper Co. (Mando).  Ken never had a dull moment growing up in the logging camp and always enjoyed telling his stories of his life and many adventures to his family.  He loved to hunt, fish and trap. One of his biggest joys was being on the open water. He couldn’t wait to jump in a boat and head down the lake.

Ken’s first job was with Mando at Camp Robinson and soon transferred to Kenora as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver hauling tree length off the Jones Road. He was a natural born equipment operator and was skilled in operating many pieces of heavy equipment. He was a volunteer fire fighter and a MNR fire fighter.  After the logger’s strike in 1979, he went on to be an owner/operator, gunsmith, forester and equipment certifier as well as a safety consultant/trainer which he did until his health no longer allowed him to continue working.

Ken’s greatest love was for his family. He spent many hours teaching his children & grandchildren his skills as well as how to embrace life.

We are heartbroken, but we know he is no longer suffering. It will be hard to go on without him. His love & spirit will always be felt at our family camp on Cedar Lake.  He will always be forever in our hearts. Rest peaceful my love…..

The family would like to thank Dr. Bester, Dr. Gagnon, the medical staff at the Machin Medical Clinic, the medical staff at the Dryden Regional Health Centre, the staff at Community Paramedics, the staff at the North West Local Health Integration Network & Telus Health – Thunder Bay for their exceptional care and compassion to Ken and his family.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Machin Medical Clinic, Box 250, Vermilion Bay, ON, P0V 2V0 or the Dryden Regional Health Centre, P.O. Box 3003, Dryden, ON, P8N 2Z6.
