Jennifer “Jenny” Northcott March 3, 1963 - August 19, 2025

Date of Funeral

August 25, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Jenny on August 19, 2025, at the age of 62.

Survived by her husband Rick, her parents, Richard and Carole Capling, her sisters Ann (Michael) and Susan (Mark). Sisters-in-law Cheryle (Gerry), Wendy, Cheryl (Roger), Val (Danny), brother-in-law Jeff (Shelley).

Lovingly remembered by her sons, Josh (Arielle), Cody (Squirt) and Brett (Andrea); her grandchildren Paylynn, Avery, Blake and Lauren; her nieces and nephews Ally (Mike) and Jenny (Jake) of  Toronto, Alexa (Daniel) and Liam (Shannon) of Melbourne, Australia, and Steven (Tiffany), Jason, Scott (Jasmine), Hailey (Cory), Kayla, Trista, Michelle (Ian), Jessica (Matt), her faithful fur babies Bella and Sammy, as well as her legion of many, many loyal friends.

Jenny was born on March 3, 1963 in Kitchener Ontario. She lived her childhood and early teen years in Ancaster and moved to Dryden at the age of 17. She was a young girl ready to set the world on fire, and that she did!!! She was an accomplished black belt in Isshin Ryu karate and

an instructing Sensei within the local club for many years. Jenny was also an amazing equestrian. For many years, she kept horses on her farm at Rice Lake until her rheumatoid arthritis made this too difficult. She carried on teaching and volunteering within the horse/farm community, as her love for horses was unmatched. Jen volunteered countless hours to countless clubs and organizations. There are too many to mention, but she touched so, so many lives in our community.

Jenny lived for her family; they were her everything! Being a caring wife and an amazing Mom, spoiling her boys was her absolute greatest joy in life. Then later, when she became “Yamma”, it just took that beautiful heart over the top. There was nothing better to her and this love was unmatched.

Yearly visits to the family cottage in Tobermory also held a special place in her heart, and she and Rick would travel each summer to go spend time with her parents and family. These visits were truly a highlight, and she would return, beaming and refreshed, bursting to share stories with her friends about her family and all their shenanigans.

Jenny loved long walks, fast cars, loud music, her father’s poetry and her mother’s wisdom, and going to bed early! She loved all types of flowers and gardening and was very proud of her back yard oasis. Jen was an avid animal whisperer, cats, dogs, horses and also her backyard birds, and she tended to all their needs faithfully.

Jenny went on to finish her high school as an adult, and she worked a variety of jobs throughout her life, finishing her career as a very respected manager of the Dryden RBC branch.

Jenny will be remembered for her love and loyalty, her good humour and sunny nature, her infectious smile, her strong spirit and her courage. Never was there a more caring person, and she put that caring to work for all those who needed her.

To honour Jenny, the family asks that we all try to be more like her, and undoubtedly the world will become a brighter place for all.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Dryden Community Funeral Home.

Beloved

We came on circles where deep grass

swirled and flattened like a nest.

They sleep in these she said,

              they’re hidden in the clear.

That afternoon three does,

ears out like paddles, browsing

at the far edge of the field, brown bodies

fat for winter, fat on her grass.

They stayed together for an hour, pausing,

turning heads in our direction, moving

down the field―

some complex pattern

I couldn’t understand.

They came to the tree line, stopped,

looked back as if they were not

done with us,

then entered the dark.

We watched for them,

long after they disappeared.

Sincere condolences to Jenny’s family & friends. I first met Jenny when she was a neighbour many moons ago on Leach Road and we used to do some walks together. It was always a chat, a smile, a hug over the years when we would run into each other. She had a sparkling personality that drew people to her & she’ll be missed. xo

Dear Dick, Carol, Ann, Suzy, Rick and family,
I was so very sorry to hear this terrible news. It has been far too many years since I last saw Jenny, but her ebullience and humour and decency struck me even as a high school student, and that lovely image of her has remained with me ever since. And of course, my dad always spoke very highly of her from her student days – she being one of the mythical tripartite Capling Sisters who were on the Mount Rushmore of his all-time favourite students.
I’m truly sorry for your loss, and will always remember Jenny with warmth, fondness, and a big smile.

Dear Dick, Carole, Susie, Ann and families. Please accept our deepest condolences. We are immensely saddened to hear of Jenny’s sudden passing. She was clearly a loving force as a mom and partner and within her whole family circle and gave generously of her time to the community. May you all find comfort in the wonderful memories of the times you had together and strength in family & friend support. While we never met Jenny, as Cathy and John F noted, I bet we heard her laughter across Dunk’s Bay at some point. Thinking of you all.
