Jack Rhyner March 27, 1958 - March 31, 2024

In loving memory of Jakob (Jack) Rhyner, who passed away unexpectedly at home on Easter Sunday (March 31, 2024).

Jack was born in Waldhof, Ontario on March 27, 1958 to his parents Helen and Jakob Rhyner. Jack was the first of the Rhyner children to join the family dairy farm and even started driving the tractor at age seven.

He graduated from Dryden High School with his Ontario Scholars designation and later married Debbie Smith. Together, they had 3 children: Matthew, Bryan and Shannon.

Jack had a lifelong passion for volunteering and supporting local and global communities. He spent 27 years with the Vermilion Bay Kinsmen Club, serving several terms as President and as District Governor. He was also serving as the President of the Vermilion Bay Lions Club at the time of his passing.

Jack was also active in the Lutheran Church and served as an Elder for a number of years. When the Church went to Haiti to support earthquake relief efforts, Jack quickly volunteered. He made a difference in the lives of many Haitian people; even spending his own money to support families in need. Many locals there still remember “Mr. Jack” to this day.

In 2013, Jack married his current wife Lucille (Lou), and he welcomed her 3 children as his own. Jack and Lou enjoyed volunteering at the Vermillion Bay Lions Club, running their fruit stand, travelling the world, and sharing years of great memories.

Jack was a wonderful gentleman with a heart of gold. He was a tireless worker and a devoted family man. People gravitated to him for his infectious smile, genuine personality, and his kind soul. Jack greeted each day with a smile that never faded from his face. He will be greatly missed by everyone that had the opportunity to meet him.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife Lou, his children: Matthew, Bryan (Sherry) and Shannon, his step-sons: Michael, David and Jonathan Berg, his brothers: David (Huguette) and Ron (Wanda), and his sisters: Susan Leutschaft (Ben), Darlene Benham (Dean) and Rita Bobay (Mike).

He is also survived by his grand-daughter Tianna, grandson Bryce and his great-granddaughter Quinn.

A loving heart stopped beating and a hard worker is now at peace. Go swiftly with the angels to your much-deserved rest.

A Private Service for immediate family only will take place at the St. Marks Lutheran Church in Vermilion Bay.

A Celebration of Life will follow for family and friends at the Vermilion Bay Lions Hall starting at 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2024.
