Fay Bridgwater, 97, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025 with her loving family at her side.
Fay was born September 21, 1928 in Quibell, Ontario to Areta (nee Thompson) and William Miller.
Bob and Fay were married on November 23, 1949. A few years into their marriage, son Stuart arrived and later they welcomed daughter, Deborah. Fay and Bob celebrated 63 years of marriage until Bob’s passing in May of 2012.
Fay worked at the Dryden Post Office prior to marrying Bob and then became a full-time wife and dedicated mother. She loved and adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her world. She was loving and kind and wanted nothing more than for them to have happy, well-lived lives. Fay was a true caretaker her whole life, babysitting her grands into her mid-80s. Known as “Nan” or “Nanny”, she was a special grandmother, always taking the time to play with her grandchildren, including the greats; crawling through tunnels, fitting into playhouses and having tea parties. Nan taught us how to treasure family by her loving actions and words.
Much of Fay’s time was spent at the island, either with friends or family. Her summers, 1967 to 2025, were filled with trips back and forth putting along on the little, yellow pontoon boat Bob had made. Many times Fay called it her second home and happy place. The island has always been and will continue to be, deeply cherished by her remaining family. There will be many more fires, barbecues and parties to come.
She led an active life, participating in curling and as a member of the Yacht Club and Legion.
Fay lived independently for several years after her husband’s passing, in the house they built. In early 2021, her health began to decline and she was moved to The Dryden Regional Health Centre, where she stayed as a long-term resident, patiently waiting for a spot in Patricia Gardens. The Bridgwater family would like to thank the nursing staff, dietary aides and all those at DRHC who were always patient, kind and caring to Fay. Fay moved, in late December of 2023, to Patricia Gardens, where she continued to live on her own until her passing. Thank you to the staff at Patricia Gardens for providing her with support, respect and kindness for the past two years.
Fay was predeceased by her in-laws, Astley and May; her parents Bill and Areta; sisters Lola “Duck” and June; husband Bob; brothers-in-law Andy, Frank and Gord and sister-in-law Marg.
She is survived by her children, Stu (Jo-Anne) and Debbie (Mike); grandchildren Matt (Caron), Kris (Brook), Dan (Sheila) and granddaughter-in-law Kaileigh; great-grandchildren, Maya, Kassie, Charlie, Andie and Claire. As well as, numerous nieces and, nephews.
Her witty sense of humour won’t soon be forgotten.
Nanny Fay was blessed to have lived a long and good life surrounded by family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private interment with family will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Second Chance Pet Network.
