ETHEL MAY MERKOSKE

July 27, 1917 – February 2, 2018

In loving memory of Ethel May Merkoske, age 100, who passed away in Princess Court Long Term Care on February 2, 2018.

Ethel is survived by her daughters: Ardith Booi, Karen (Merv) Hayes, Elynne (Garry) Tourond, her sons: Jim Merkoske and Evan Merkoske, 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her parents: Walter and Sarah Ritchie, her brothers: Allen, Howard, Orville and Albert, her sisters: Maude, Edna, June and Verna, her daughter Nolaine and son Leonard and her husband James “Jake” Merkoske.

Ethel was born in Delisle, Saskatchewan and lived in B.C., Alberta and Ontario before moving with her family to Vermilion Bay for the second time in 1962.  She loved being outside in the summer months, tending her garden and keeping the yard tidy.  She couldn’t wait for spring and was often outside chopping away at the last bits of snow in the yard to make it melt just a little quicker.  She loved to read and bake, making her own homemade bread well into her nineties. A cup of tea and a plateful of cookies were always on offer for visitors. Her family will miss her so much.

Cremation has taken place.

A Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Happy Go Lucky Seniors Centre in Vermilion Bay with Ron Booi officiating.

Interment will be held at a later date.
