Edward Walter Salavich passed away peacefully, following a short illness, at the age of 82, in the loving presence of his wife Marjorie and his eldest sister Ora Semeniuk on Friday, November 5, 2021, at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Following his birth on October 15, 1939, he lived his family-focussed life exclusively in Dryden and Barclay. The war had just started, and it was under its shadow that Sadie (Sarah Emma Prouty) and Bill Salavich raised him along with his sisters Ora (Semeniuk), Viola (Lindquist) and Lana (Lang).
After his graduation from Dryden High School in 1958, he went to work for Bell Canada as a Central Office Technician where he remained until his retirement in 1997.
He married Diane Dixon, the mother of his children, Brad and Tara, in 1962. Together they owned and operated Quan Questa Kennels and pet shop in Barclay until the mid 1980’s. Ed was an avid member of the Dryden Dog Fancier’s Club.
Ed was a friend of Bill W for 43 years and was an active member and trusted friend to many in the Dryden Footprints Group.
In 1990, Ed married Marjorie (Senior) and together they raised her children Catherine and Richard.
Following his retirement, he and Marjorie opened Salavich’s Serge ‘n Sew, one of the few Husqvarna sewing machine dealers and repair shops in Northwestern Ontario.
Ed is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marjorie; his children Brad (Mike Almond), Tara (Chris Lind), Catherine (Tim) Dashnay and Richard (Heather Bennett) Goldsworthy; his grandchildren Deirdre, Karissa, Aza, Levi, Brooklyn, Llyr and Teagan.
He is also survived by his sisters Ora Semeniuk, Viola Lindquist, and Lana (Horst) Lang, his nieces and nephews Joe (Heather) Semeniuk, Stephen (Jill Russell) Semeniuk, Saralyn Semeniuk, Reg (Debbie) Lindquist, Rae-Lynn (Glen) Meade, Jana (Darren) Froome, Erik (Adi) Lang, and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents Bill and Sadie, brothers-in-law John Semeniuk and Reg Lindquist and nephew Guy Brisson.

PS a short quote in remembrance from Romeo and Juliet:
From Shakespeare for you
“And, when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night,
And pay no worship to the garish sun.”

November 12, 2021 at 2:47 amA visit with Ed at the quilt store was the highlight of many trips to Dryden for my sister and me. Besides his extensive knowledge about sewing machines, he just was so much fun to chat with. I was saddened to learn he had passed away. He will be greatly missed.
