With broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, Dale Leonzio, who passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Kelowna Hospice House on August 7, 2026.
Dale was born on September 11, 1964, in Dryden Ontario to Elsie Leonzio and the late Rocco Leonzio.
Dale met his loving wife, Gladys, at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ontario in September 1983 and were married in April 1991 in Toronto, Ontario. They later moved to Cranbrook, BC in October 1991 and welcomed their beautiful daughter, Melissa, in July 1998.
Dale worked in the construction field after finishing his education at Confederation College and became self-employed after moving to Cranbrook, BC as a construction/renovation contractor.
Over the years, Dale enjoyed building beautiful furniture in his shop, camping, boating and fishing with his family as well as cycling with his wife Gladys. One of Dale’s passions was music, including building his own speakers and setting up his own surround-sound system.
Dale was originally diagnosed with cancer in October 2008 at which time he had a kidney removed and was informed that he was cancer free. Unfortunately, in September 2024, he learned his cancer had returned, spreading throughout some of his body. He underwent several surgeries to help strengthen a few of his bones along with radiation treatments and other targeted related cancer treatments. Dale & Gladys moved to Kelowna, BC in November 2025 to be closer to Dale’s cancer treatments. Throughout all of this, Dale remained positive and enjoyed life to its fullest.
Dale leaves behind to mourn his loving wife, Gladys, his beautiful daughter, Melissa, his mother Elsie, his brothers, Don & Dean (Dana), and his sisters Susan & Sharon (Gary) along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews, a great-grand niece and many cousins.
Dale was predeceased by his older brother Doug in October 1972, his father Rocco in March 1992 as well as his brothers-in-law, Ivan, Peter & Paul along with his parents-in-law, uncles, aunts and grandparents.
Dale will be cremated with his ashes scattered in the Columbia River, near Trail, BC, at one of his favourite fishing spots. A Private Family Celebration of Dale’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dale’s memory to the BC (Canadian) Cancer Society.
