Arthur (Bud) Stratford October 3, 1935 - November 1, 2023

Arthur (Bud) Frederick Stratford, 88 years old of Dryden, ON., passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 1, 2023 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.

Arthur was born on October 3, 1935 to Ruth (Hansel) and John Stratford in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Bud met Bernice (Fawcett) the love of his life in Thunder, Bay, Ontario. They married on March 29th 1958. Their marriage was a true love story that spanned 65 years. Arthur and Bernice went on to have 5 children, Gary Stratford, Linda (Russell) Barker, Susan (Dave) Smith, Lorne (Wanda) Stratford, Bruce (Shannon) Stratford.

Bud was survived by his wife, his 5 children, his brother Robert (Carolyn) Stratford, 2 brothers-in-law Ron Popowich and Doug Savela, 8 grandchildren; Brent, Jennifer, Kristy, Shayna, Jessica, Jared, Jordon, and Brenna, 5 great-grandchildren; Neveah, Blair, Bennett, Lenni and Sammy as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Bud enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, fishing, and camping at his favourite spots, Amesdale and Godson. Bud was an entertainer who loved to sing, play the guitar and was known on occasion to bring out his “bagpipes”. With his quick wit, shared jokes and his famous one liners, bringing smiles and laughter to all around him.

Bud was “one of the good ones”, special to many. With his playful nature he loved sports, especially hockey and baseball. He coached, built the backyard rink for the neighbourhood kids year after year and was always there to cheer us on, no matter the sport.

Bud will be dearly missed and will live on in the hearts and memories of all those he touched. May he rest in peace. Cheerio!

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Condolences to the Stratford family. I have many fond memories of his quick wit and singing around campfire at Amesdale. I have no doubt he is playing his guitar with Uncle Garry around a fire somewhere.

Bud was like an uncle to me and both Bernice and Bud were great friends with mom and dad, Julia and Bill Radford. We had so much fun at the Stratford’s home and in their presence. Buds humour and caring also contributes to building who I am today. Such as, include children in gatherings, entertain others with your talents-no matter how strange they may be, rolling cigarettes is cheaper than a pack, gardening and turkeys can be fun, always open your home to others and believe in other’s abilities. Thank you Bud. For Bernice and the kids, my heart goes out to you all. I shed tears learning of the loss. What a privilege it has been. If mom could she would hug you all and send love. I’m sure dad cant wait for his arrival to the heavens above. Not sure if God is ready for the 2 of them together again. Love to all.
