Agnes Brown
June 24, 1937 – March 24, 2018
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Kokum, Auntie and Friend, Agnes Brown, at the Dryden Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
Agnes was predeceased by her husband Sam Jackson, her father, Charlie Pitchenese, her mother, Annie Brownlee, her daughter, Betty Blanchard, her sister, Violet Brown (Teakas), and her brothers, Paul Pitchenese, Jack Brown (Cheecheta), George Brown (Gaucho) and Johnny Brown (2 dollars)
She leaves to mourn her daughters, Freda Brown (Sonny), Shirley Brown (Shawn) and her son Jackie Brown (Linda), her grandchildren Andrea Brown (Tim), Jennifer Brown (Mike), Chris Morin, Shila Morin and Donald Morin, her great grandchildren Alex Derosier, Taylor Derosier, Marcus Brown, Johnathon Brown, Ella Brown and Bree Brown-Parenteau and her great-great grandchild Tony PJ Derosier. She also leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Agnes was born on the old reserve of Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and loved fishing, hunting, trapping, cooking outdoors, rice picking with her husband Sam Jackson, picking blue berries out at the blueberry camp and she especially enjoyed attending and dancing at the POW WOW’s in Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, Eagle Lake First Nation and surrounding Nations.
Agnes lived on her own terms and was very proud of her Ojibway traditions and culture. Agnes was full of life and love and she touched so many people’s hearts with her funny little stories. She always had a smile and a laugh to share, an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on. I salute you Captain.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the generous and supportive community of extended family, friends and neighbors – too numerous to mention – whose kindness went above and beyond over the years, helping her and her brother to remain in their home.
A huge thank you to Dr. Kerri Wilson and all the Nurses for their excellent care and many house calls. Thank you to Princess Court Long Term Care Facility Staff for their care and compassion shown to Agnes. A big thank you to Bob Savage from Dryden Community Funeral Home for going above and beyond.
