Theresa Marie Huffman

Theresa passed away on March 19, 2018 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre with her family by her side.

Theresa was born September 14, 1930 to John and Domatile Ramsay in Chatham, New Brunswick. She was the 4^th oldest of 11 children. 6 brothers and 4 sisters. She received her limited classroom education in Chatham.

Mom married Dad at a very young age of 16 and started a large family of their own; Linda, Edna, Floyd, Douglas, Susan and Robert were all born in New Brunswick before moving to Dryden in 1954 where she gave birth to her youngest son Richard.

In later years, Theresa married Glen. She was a surrogate mother/caregiver to many. Loving, caring and giving came natural to her.

Sewing was one of mom’s self-taught talents passing that onto her oldest daughter. Knitting was another skill that she taught her second oldest and anyone else that was eager to learn. With such a large family, gardening, canning, baking and cooking were a must. Mom thoroughly enjoyed teaching all of us kids the way around the kitchen and the dance floor.

Mom was not the typical housebound mother. She was an avid “fisher woman” and enjoyed hunting. She proudly displayed pictures of her with her fallen prey (We believe that was for bragging rights).

Mom had such a zest for life! She absolutely loved to dance. Her favourite music was country and was always playing in her house or else a good old western on the telly.

Mom was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63. She played darts in several leagues and won her fair share of tournaments. Crib was another game she played and taught her kids and grandkids. When bingo took to the air in Dryden, she would have her cards purchased at Mary’s and set for an evening and occasionally winning.

She travelled across Canada a few times to visit family and friends and also had a memorable trip to Las Vegas. But her hunting and fishing trips out shone that!

In the last few years, Mom was not in the best of health. She wanted to be at home by the river. When you walked in the door, she would sing out “Put the kettle on dear!” no matter how tired or sick she was.

Theresa was predeceased by her parents, 6 brothers, 2 sisters, husband Glen, 2 sons Robert and Douglas, 2 grandsons Terrie and Randy and son-in-law Ty.

She is survived by 2 sisters Eunice and Brenda, 2 sons, 3 daughters, 2 sons-in-law, 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren and a host of dear cherished friends.

Theresa’s family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses for the special care she received throughout her years at the DRHC as well as Odette and the many caregivers at her home.
