It is with huge sadness that we announce the passing of Vera Madeline McMaster (White). Mom was born in Noranda Quebec, lived in Schreiber, Thunder Bay, and Wabigoon, before moving to Dryden. Mom attended DHS and Shaw Business College in Toronto. She returned to Dryden to work for Alex Wilson. Mom married Dad (Harry) in 1953 and began raising her three children, Erin, Jack, and Anne. When we attended high school, mom returned to work for Phil Johnson and Roy Orvis at the Dryden Cable Company.
Grandchildren came along and Mom was in her glory. The Grandkids (Lisa Nordin (Nick), Andrew Nordin (Rebecca), Jennifer McMaster (Kevin), Kailey Clark (Adam), Kira Wilson, Harrison Schan) loved to stay at Ghost Lake with Grammy and Granddad, enjoying the walks to “Mossland”, swimming and playing games. Mom had special relationships with each grandchild, and they have memories to cherish.
Mom was fortunate to develop strong relationships with her great grandchildren (Raleigh, Madeline, Carter and Jacklyn). Mom became GG for the great grandchildren. There were many visits to Ghost Lake and then her Condo. Mom always had treats in dishes for the great grandkids, which was usually their first stop upon entering the condo.
Mom liked her time by herself at the lake and then the condo. She could lose herself in books but had an enormous passion for painting. Her landscapes were excellent, completing her last picture a month before passing.
Mom had the ability to connect with people she met and left lasting impressions. She was an excellent role model for respectful, compassionate, and engaging interactions. She was concerned about moving from the lake to the condo, but very quickly made good friendships with so many wonderful neighbors. We are thankful for the support provided by Mom’s 4th floor friends. They genuinely cared for Mom, and she often talked about their visits.
Mom was pre-deceased by her husband Harry (2019), and her brothers Jim and Frank. Mom will be sadly missed by her children, Erin (Alex), Jack (Jeannie) and Anne (Al), her 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and her brothers Bob, Dick (Carol) and Peter (Judy) White and many nieces, nephews and other friends and loved ones who were always welcome for a meal or stay at Moms.
We want to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at the DRHC for the exceptional care and treatment provided to Mom.

July 10, 2024 at 5:09 pmDear Erin, Jack, and Anne,
Our condolences on the loss of your mum. Your dad was our dad’s first contact from DHS and a good friend. Our mums followed into the friendship soon after. There are so many great stories from the early days that our parents shared with us. No doubt you heard many of those as well. May the love for you and the love of life your parents shared be comfort to you. – Gord, Kathryn, and LInnea
