Stanley Church January 13, 1932 - January 26, 2024

Stanley Russell Church peacefully passed away on January 26th, 2024, at 3 a.m. at The Dryden Regional Health Centre with his beloved wife Beatrice by his side.

Stan is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years Beatrice Church (nee Greaves),
children Christine Scime of Dryden, Ontario, Joanne Raven and husband Fraser of Brockville, Ontario, Jeff Church and wife Valorie of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Grandchildren Matthew Scime, Sean McNeill, Lyndsay Bigley, Brianna Raven, Austin Church, Amanda Church and Hayden Church; Great Grandchildren Colton Bigley and Piper Bigley. He was preceded in death by his son in law Vincent Scime, his parents and brother Gordon Church.

Stan was born Jan.13th, 1932 in Winnipeg. He moved to Dryden in 1940 where he has resided since. Stan and Beatrice were married on May 7th, 1954. They have had a wonderful, adventure-filled life together full of love and laughter.

Stan began working at the Dryden Paper Mill as a young man of 22 years old starting in the bleach plant. Throughout his career he worked up through the ranks retiring as a Supervisor of the Wood Room in 1990.

Retirement at the young age of 58 provided more time for Stan and Bea to travel. This included time as snowbirds in Florida for 8 years. Summers were spent fishing on his prized boat and trying to improve his golf game which he continued right up to the summer of 2023.

Stan loved the outdoors and travel. He instilled the love of camping in all his children, providing many wonderful memories for all his children and grandchildren. In the winter months he would be on his snow machine and ice fishing when he could. Curling was also a big part of Stan’s winter activities. All kinds of fun with participation in many bonspiels and a few wins as well.

Stan enjoyed working with his hands. From building their home to four different cabins, he honed his skills, being able to help his family whenever the need arose.

Stan always gave back to the community of Dryden through volunteering with the Lions Club. Stan was a Lions member for 65 years. He was given the distinctive honour of being awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services by the Lions Club International Foundation.

Stan was a grandfather who always made each of his seven grandchildren feel special. His witty sense of humour and zest for life made for many fun visits that we all looked forward to. He enjoyed attending the many sporting events all his grandchildren participated in.

A love for dogs and compassion for all animals reflected further his character of kindness.
