Norman Shane McMillan (known as SHANE) was born October 6, 1958 in Dryden, ON to William John McMillan and Thelma Mae McMillan (Gurney). He was the eldest of four siblings – Heather (Mel), Scott (Brenda) and Robyn.
Shane was a Dryden boy through and through. Growing up on Lakeside Drive and eventually building his forever home next door to his childhood home. He spent many summers with family and friends at Ghost Lake.
Shane graduated high school early and continued on to graduate from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Civil Engineering. He followed in his father’s footsteps to take over the family company Hoey & McMillan Ltd., where he spent many hard worked hours and eventually retired.
Shane had many close friendships and friend groups over the years, enjoying several different activities but his main passion was for golf.
Shane connected with the love of his life, Janice Gould in 1998. Together they continued raising their children Tara (Lee), Ashley (Kerry), Matt (Charlee), Melissa (Cliff), Ryan (Andrea). They enjoyed travelling and golfing and ultimately couldn’t spoil or spend enough time with their grandchildren: Xander, Kohbe, & Keelin; Theo & Ben; Elliot & Noa; Everly; Bailey & Lily.
Even though their retirement was cut short due to illnesses, Shane and Jan shared their love for music & concerts, hot weather, travelling, friends, family and fellowship at their home in Dryden and Dunedin, Florida.
After a long-fought battle with lung disease and becoming a successful candidate for transplant, Shane’s health deteriorated too quickly making him unable to be transported to Toronto. Being only 65, Shane had many dreams for the future but ultimately found comfort in his final hours with his children by his side.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife Jan but will be forever missed and in the heart of his children and their families as well as his siblings, the entire Gould family, extended family and friends as well as many others.
A special heartfelt thank you goes out to all Shane’s medical teams from Dryden to Thunder Bay to Toronto. We couldn’t have done it without you.
