With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Kirwan, a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, who left us too soon. Michael was a man whose love for his family knew no bounds, and his legacy will live on through the memories he created and the lives he touched.
Michael was predeceased by his daughter Shayna-Rae, his Grandfather Sidney Simpson, Grandmother Gertie Simpson-Parks, Grandfather Albert Parks, parents Robert and Dianne Kirwan, stepfather Bert Landry, sister Cheryl Peterson/Cook and nephew Cody Wendland/Kirwan.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Carol and his siblings Rosemary (Thane) Valdock, Nancy Langlais, Sandra (Enzo) Benvenuto and Danny (Angela) Kirwan, as well as, in-laws Diane (Terry) Hurley, Ken (Bonnie) Burgett, brother-in-law Ron (Sonia) Burgett and sister-in-law Lisa Burgett. His memory will be cherished by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
After the passing of his father, Michael stepped up to help raise his brothers and sisters. Known for his protective nature, he was always there for his loved ones, no matter the time of day or night. If you needed him, you only had to call, and he would come—his commitment to family and friends was steadfast. His eyes would light up at the sight of his family, especially when surrounded by all the children. His genuine smile and infectious sense of humor were a beacon of joy, and he was a constant source of warmth and laughter.
Michael followed his sister to Maidstone SK and then on to Edmonton, where he began a new chapter in his life. It was there that he met Carol, and their connection was instant—love at first sight. Together, they worked hard to bring their miracle baby, Shayna Rae, into the world. His role as a father was one he cherished deeply, and he was proud to see his daughter grow.
Affectionately known by the nickname “Jumbo,” Michael was instantly recognizable by his striking blonde locks, which often earned him the nickname “Hulk Hogan” from the kids, as he was a huge wrestling fan. Strong, both physically and in spirit, Michael had a work ethic that was second to none. He was a dedicated worker, always giving his best in everything he did.
An outdoorsman at heart, Michael loved nothing more than spending time hunting and fishing. He was an exceptionally skilled fisherman, often the only one in the boat to reel in a catch, which only added to his legendary status among friends and family.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and laughter. He will be deeply missed by his wife Carol, his siblings, and the countless friends who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his presence, and his spirit will forever remain in the stories shared around campfires, fishing boats, and family gatherings. You will always be loved, always be remembered, and forever missed.
Love you, Sweet Dreams, and Goodnight.
