Mom passed away on the morning of Wednesday April 13, 2022. She had fallen and fractured a couple bones in her pelvis on March 10, 2022 and had been at the Dryden Hospital since then.
Mom was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 29, 1942, the youngest daughter of Michael and Sylvia Raggets and little sister to Shirley. Both of her parents had many siblings and Joyce grew up with many cousins close by.
She was of a generation that has seen the world change in some very extreme ways and she evolved with them. She left the 8 lanes of traffic in Cleveland and moved to the tiny village of Eagle River in 1976 with her husband and 3 children. Rural life was hard having grown up in the city, but she did it. She was willing to learn and loved helping Danny research whatever he was working on. Many of her generation refused to learn about computers but Mom embraced the challenge and jumped in and became very proficient… an example we would do well to remember as technology consumes us.
Mom was predeceased by her mother Sylvia (2002), her father Michael (2004) and brother-in-law Bill (2020) and her sister Shirley in December 2021, mother and father-in-law Irene Teeple Tattrie (1984) and Albert Danielson (1980), brother-in-law Earl (1987), sister-in-law Barbara (2015), and nephew Richard (2007).
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Danny (Karen), Diana (Tony), Denise (Brian) and their father, Don Tattrie, grandchildren Danielle (Justin) and Derrick (Makensy) Tattrie and Dayna, Darian (Alex) and Kaedyn Griffiths, Ryan and Erik Jaeger, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Shout out to the friendships that withstood the test of time, space and covid rules and came through in Mom’s thoughts during her final week with us: Dad, Sheila Thompson, Dot, Sharon and Alyssa, Rick Perkins, Bev (the Bingo caller), Darryl and Brenda Dowswell.
Thank you to the staff at the Dryden Regional Health Centre for your care during the days Mom was in your hands. In particular, Vanessa, Mary, Ashlie, and Delaine. Your compassion and empathy came through loud and clear and it is safe to say your current career path is most fitting.
