Jason Meawasige May 14, 1972 - July 25, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jason Kelly Meawasige, also known as Ozhaawashko-giizhig.

Jason was surrounded by his loving family as he started his journey into the spirit world. Jason was always happy and smiling, even through his pain. He had a kind heart and would often help others at his own expense, Jason was happy as a young boy and his contagious smile followed him into his adult life. If you couldn’t find him on a Saturday morning as a young boy, you just had to find the TV because he loved his morning weekend cartoons. Jason loved to cook and had a love for food, which he got from his mom. Jason loved to be around the neighborhood kids from Eagle River & Eagle Lake. He often stayed with his Grandma Meawasige, who loved him with all of her heart and he would take care of her in many ways. She would take him everywhere. He became a sidekick at the Meawasige homestead. He was patient, kind and never argued, even when his cousins would try to get him into trouble. Jason loved his family. From childhood, he spent time surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family. He loved to be around them spending valuable time with them and often that’s where he was, with family. He spent time with his friends swimming at Little Eagle, having bon fires, roasting hot dogs, playing community kick the can, hitting the drive in with April, Lesley & Jaymie and singing and listening to music. He loved to game and often would spend time online gaming which he was perfecting. He had a passion for all music. He enjoyed singing and listening to any type.

Jason will be missed by so many, especially his brother Bobby (Robert) and his partner Bonnie. Jason was recently predeceased by his mother Doris Meawasige and his father Robert Kelly and many other family members.

He will be missed by so many others, especially his Meawasige family and his Kelly family.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Eagle Lake First Nation Community Hall until time of service. A Traditional Service will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Eagle Lake First Nation Community Hall until time of service with Elder Roy Napish officiating.

Condolences to the family. He’ll be missed. I last saw Jason at Uncle George’s funeral, ordered him to tend the fire and then mop the floors. He looked at me like “You’re kidding, right?” We laughed. He tended the fire but it was a hard NO on the floors. So sorry for your loss Bobby, much love to you and your family.
