Greg George “Waabshki Maiingan” August 16, 1965 - May 22, 2022

Date of Funeral

May 30, 2022

Unexpected under tragic circumstances that we announce the passing of our son, father, brother, uncle, nephew and grandfather, Edward James Gregory George. With his family by his side, Greg took his last breath, quietly and calmly on May 22, 2022.

Greg was survived by his loving mother Dorothy Parenteau, children; Candace Shabaquay, Shara Gardner, and Ashton George, brothers; Kevin George, Jonathon Parenteau (Sandy), Phillip Ray (Hannah) of Ottawa and Jamie Hill of Thunder Bay, nephews and niece; Jeremiah George, Jordan George, Maddy and Dylan Parenteau and his special Auntie Marlene McLeod.

Greg was predeceased by his father Jimmy Parenteau, step-father Paul Watts and partner Emily Brown. He will be greeted with hugs by his favourite people; Auntie Shooma, Uncle Puck, Aunties Em and Violet and his Uncle George.

Greg had fond memories of Metis Road, he grew up with his first cousins and we all remained close. The Chief sisters; Shiela, Donna and Danine were close to Greg and knew him for his soft spirit. He would stop by the office and inquire about their health and well being and occasionally, gas money.

Greg was very proud to be a traditional dancer, every detail of his regalia was thought out and created with care (the sewing part too). His powwow trail had many breaks due to addictions, but he loved to dance, slow and steady. He proudly displayed every bustle on his walls. He was generous with his craft, teaching young men and cousins to make head pieces and bustles.

Greg took pride in all that he could control, he always kept himself clean and well groomed. He spent hours cutting grass, trimming hedges, and tinkering in his shed. Greg was very handy. If you stopped by for a visit, Greg would wasn’t to show you the next bustle or his home improvements. His house was always immaculate and you could smell a fresh coat of paint.

Greg loved his children, he would talk about them to his family, asking how they were doing, wishing them well and only the very best.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, May 29, 2022 from 2 p.m. until time of service at the Wabigoon Lake Conference Centre.

A Traditional Service will follow on Monday, May 30, 2022 at 2 p.m. with an Elder officiating.

Cremation to follow and Interment will take place at a later date.
