In Loving Memory of Gordon William Gilbart
July 26, 1935 – June 22, 2025
Age 89 | Ignace, Ontario
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gordon William Gilbart, age 89, at Princess Court Nursing Home.
Gordon was born on July 26, 1935, in Elkhorn, Manitoba, to Stanley and Gladys Gilbart. He was one of four siblings: his sisters Eve and Eileen, who predeceased him, and his brother Lloyd, who resides in Thunder Bay.
While serving in the Army in Germany, Gordon met the love of his life and dance partner, Elsa. They shared 63 wonderful years together and raised four children together. After his service, Gordon returned to Canada with Elsa and their two sons, Joe and Stan. The family settled in Elkhorn, where their daughter Cindy was born, and later moved to the Red Lake area, where their youngest son, Buzz, completed the family.
Gordon worked as a hard rock miner—both underground and on the surface—eventually taking on a supervisory role. His coworkers always knew when Gordie was coming to check on them by the familiar scent of his pipe.
In 1976, Gordon and his family moved to Ignace, Ontario. He loved the outdoors, enjoying fishing trips, hunting, and, in later years, taking rides in his side-by-side—even making the trip to Dryden for coffee. But above all else, Gordon’s greatest joy was his family—his beloved Elsa, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as the many friends he made along the way.
Gordon is predeceased by his wife, Elsa Gilbart (2017), and his daughter, Cindy Pesola (2022). He is lovingly remembered by his children:
– Joe Gilbart of Calgary, Alberta
– Stan (Sylvie) Gilbart of Ignace, Ontario
– Buzz (Kim) Gilbart of Ignace, Ontario
– His son-in-law, Rick Pesola of Ignace, Ontario
Gordon was a proud grandfather to Misty, Tamara, Jennifer, Jake, Micky, and Brea-Ann, and a cherished great-grandfather to his fourteen great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Princess Court Nursing Home and the Dryden Community Funeral Home for their compassionate care and support.
In recognition of Gordon’s love of animals, donations may be made to Northern Critters In Need, Box 1023, Ignace, ON P0T 1T0
Gordon’s legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
