Emily Derouin

May 7, 1940 – November 29, 2018

In loving memory of Emily Derouin, age 78, who passed away at the Dryden Regional Health Centre with her family by her side.

Mommy is survived by her children; Josephine, John (Agnes), Floyd (Christa), Allen (Arlene), Dennis, Louise, James (Trina), Jackie (Wayne), Ericka and Albert (Myrna), numerous grand kids, great grand kids, her special friend Chuck Peavoy and Oliver the dog who made her happy with their visits while she was in the hospital. She is also survived by her only sister Victoria Caron and her kids; Evelyn, Lou, Paul, Theresa, Suzie and Joe. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years Joseph Derouin, her parents Peter and Mary Kakekashkung, 11 siblings, her grandson Gabriel and great grandson Wyatt.

My mom was a vibrant soul, had a loveable heart and was a caring beautiful person. Up until she got sick, she was still full of joy and sparkled when she was happy to see you and was always there when anyone needed her.

Being a mother of 10, 6 boys and 4 girls, she had quite a lot on her hands. As her children got older, she was always there for them. No matter how tough or hard times were, she and Dad handled it. She never turned anyone away when they needed help. Her life was like a bright star, loveable, funny and happy. She loved all types of music, her favourite was country. She loved to dance and enjoyed times with her family and friends. She loved picking berries, camping and fishing when she was able to, but it became so she couldn’t do the stuff she loved as her health wasn’t great.

Sometimes she would remember her life and all the things she did as she grew up in Lake St. Joe. She could do all types of things. She made our clothes, foot wear, moccasins and mitts. My mom was a lady with many talents that we remember about her life in the good old days. Her and Dad loved to go up north to stay where we grew up, Mile 42 was their home for years where they raised their children.

When Dad passed away and she was on her own, she moved on in her own way. She was always happy to see her boys and daughters. Mom had lots of friends who she enjoyed a lot as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Our lasting memories of Mom are simple. We saw how strong she was and unafraid she was, even at the very end when she went to sleep and went to go be with Dad.

Our Mom was and always will be strong and unafraid. We are sad, but we will celebrate her life like she wanted us kids to do. Mom, thank you for everything that you have given us and the warmth and love you have shown us during your precious time with us. Go with the spirit of God and rejoice with your family that is waiting for you. We, your children, will love you and always miss you!

God bless you Mommy!
