Dorothy “Dot” Bryck November 24, 1929 - September 3, 2022

Date of Funeral

September 9, 2022

Our loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great -grandmother “Dot” passed away September 3, 2022.

Dot was born in Keewatin, Ontario Nov 24, 1929 to James McCaffrey (a WW veteran who died in 1942) and Marion Sloan (who died in 1937). She was one of 8 children and received her early education in Keewatin. When her mother died, Dot was in Grade 3; and she, Winnie and Jerry went to the convent in Aurborg, Manitoba. Then she moved to Dryden to live with the Jack Skillen clan. They were a second family to Dot and her siblings and the family are forever grateful.

Dot and Bill married and raised their children Bill, Dan and Susan in Dryden. Family was the center of Dot’s and Bill’s lives – they supported and encouraged their children in their interests. With family friends they loved to fish, curl, and camp. In later years travelling within Canada and to Ireland and Florida were highlights for Dot and Bill. Spending time with grandchildren was a joy for Dot and she loved to hear of their latest antics.

She was predeceased by her husband Bill, her parents, brothers Basil, Jim, Jerry and sisters Lenore, Winnie, Rita and Myrtle.

She is survived by her sons Bill (Kate), Dan (Kathy) and daughter Susan and grandchildren Michael (Ashley) and Kelly (Mike), Kaitlin (Chris) and Adam (Michelle), Christopher (Julia) and Jason (Taylor); great- grandchildren Tyler and Brody Oswald, Landon Bryck, and Louis and Owen Flint. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Grace McCaffrey and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dot’s Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her being and gave her strength and peace. It was truly a life well lived.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, September 9, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Alan Campeau officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dryden Cemetery.

    Dear Dan, Kathy and family
Please accept our sincere and deepest sympathy during your time of sorrow. Dot touched so many people and will definitely be missed by all those who were fortunate to know her. I know I will miss her asking me “what did he say?” when she didn’t hear what Father said in church. She was an amazing lady and may the memories you all have help you through these tough and sorrowful times. Sending thoughts and prayers to all of you. Rick and Lorraine Wyder 🙏

Dan and Family. So sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom. Parents raise us, protect us and shelter us. They are a central presence in our lives from the time that we are born. The loss of a parent is always a difficult for anyone to deal with at any stage of life. Our parents support us, our children and their loss is felt across generations. We hope that all of the fond memories help you through the difficulty of your loss. Helen & Tom McKay

    Kathy and Dan,
So saddened to hear of Dot’s passing. I still remember my mom talking about her as one of the girls she hung around with in Dryden and the ones on the hockey team. I have old pictures of the “girls” together hanging out. Our thoughts are with you. Dan and Sue

I have many memories of her and Winnie with my Mom, especially connected to the CWL – they were the backbone of that organization for many years.
