Calvin Wilson September 15, 1941 - February 23, 2023

Calvin passed away at the age of 81 in Dryden, Ontario on February 23, 2023.  According to his wishes, no funeral service was held.  He will be interred at a later date in Waverley Memorial Garden in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  He was predeceased by his daughter, Laura-Leigh, brothers, Wayne and Paton, and sister-in-law Shirley.  He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Karin, son, Sean, daughter, Michelle, sister, Ferelith, sister-in-law, Viola and niece and nephews.

He was born on September 15, 1941 in Kenora, Ontario.  His father worked for CP Rail and the family moved several times throughout Calvin’s childhood.  He grew up in several small towns across Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  He was especially fond of his time in Carievale, Saskatchewan and Melita, Manitoba.  He frequently entertained us with stories of the adventures of he and his younger brother, Paton.

Calvin worked for CP Rail for 36 years in various locations across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Northwestern Ontario as a Station Agent and later Mobile Supervisor.  He always loved trains, and enjoyed visiting historic railway sites.

Calvin and Karin married in 1968 and they began their married life in Starbuck, Manitoba.  They moved several times, including a return to Carievale where he enjoyed reconnecting with people from his youth.  They lived in Sanford, Manitoba for several years before his work brought them to Dryden, Ontario.

He had an easy-going, friendly nature and a short conversation could often turn into a long one.  He was a devoted family man, and always had time for his children.  He did his best to never miss a school, Scouts, Girl Guides, or 4H event.

Calvin had a lifelong love of sports and played high school football and baseball.  He grew up a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, and later cheered for the Chicago Cubs and the Toronto Blue Jays.  Saturday nights would find Calvin watching Hockey Night in Canada and cheering for the Winnipeg Jets.  He was a devoted fan of the Canadian Football League and always cheered for his beloved Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  He and his daughters attended many games together, including the Grey Cup in 1998.
