Antonio Taddeo March 11, 1922 - March 9, 2022

In loving memory of Antonio Taddeo who passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 with family by his side.

Antonio left Italy in 1951 for Valencia, Venezuela for work. With no job opportunity there, he was then sponsored by his father’s sister, Rosa Taddeo Vendetti, to come to Ignace to work for CP Rail where his two older brothers, Felix and Albert Taddeo, were already working. He worked for CP Rail for a little over 31 years as a labourer, then sector foreman. He took an early retirement and as he put it “Let some young guys have a job!”.

He would walk everyday with his dog Snoopy to socialize at the Wayfare in the morning, and Esso in the afternoon.

Antonio loved hockey. He also enjoyed watching his sons play hockey and never missed a game. He loved nature and going into the bush and picking trees to plant at his and Toni’s place. He would collect wood, picking the straightest poles for his beans as he loved his passion for the garden. He would also pick berries and of course mushrooms. He loved fishing and making homemade wine.

Antonio had a soft spot in his heart for animals. He would bring home wounded birds in his lunch box from work and nurse them back to health. When the kids were young, he would walk them to Agimak Beach every weekend to learn to swim and sit there and watch them. He loved life!

Antonio is survived by his wife Iolanda of 71 years of marriage and daughter Antoinette. He loved his nieces and nephews like his own.

He is predeceased by his sons Mario and Aldo Taddeo, brothers Felix and Albert Taddeo and their wives.

We are going to miss this gentle soul!

    Dear Iolanda and Antoinette (Toni):

My sincere condolences in the loss of husband and father, Antonio (Tony) – such a lovely man, always with a smile on his face. I have such wonderful memories of the love he showed Tamara (Parrish) when she was a little girl and how they would smile and chat in church during Mass, we would always have sit in a pew either in front or behind so they could visit; or in the Wayfare Restaurant. He was a special individual who loved gardening, wine making, his dog Snoopy and chatting with family and friends; yes truly a gentle soul.

These words I hope will give you comfort – “Sharing tales of these we’ve lost is how we keep from really losing them.” … Mitch Albom

I am sending love and prayers – Suzanne (Sue) Smith
