In loving memory of Rene “Ren” Gerald Rhind who passed away suddenly at 330 Van Horne Ave. on the 21st day of July, 2025 at the age of 66. Born March 20, 1959, Ren was raised in Thunder Lake to parents Jean and Keith Rhind. Ren then relocated to beautiful Dryden, Ontario, where he called home for the remainder of his life.
Ren was predeceased by his parents, Jean Alice Rhind and Keith Hubert Rhind.
He is survived by Sisters Katherine (Leo) Rhind, Stella (Roland) Stoyko, Nephews Antoney A.K.A. Toney, Kyle (Kate) Rhind, Nieces Nicole and Ashley Stoyko, Great-Nephew Hunter Bradley Rhind, loving cat Midnight, as well as numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins. He will also be remembered by his friends Bill Evans (60+ years of friendship), Ed Gibbons, Gary Davies, Donna, Derek, and Clareasa.
As a hardcore Toronto Maple Leafs fan, his love for hockey was astronomical. You could find Ren playing “Pay as you Play” hockey at the Arena, if he wasn’t busy watching a game. He loved Football (Winnipeg Blue Bombers), Baseball (Toronto Blue Jays), and his job, delivering the Dryden flyers and the Winnipeg Free Press. He often spent his free time mentoring at The Dryden Native Friendship Center, but if the Olympics were on, good luck getting a hold of him. He would be hyper focused, watching it for hours until the end.
He was a very good conversationalist, chatting your ear off for hours on end, especially about politics as he was very opinionated. He was a true kid at heart with legendary music taste. He loved Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, KISS, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Slipknot — anything rock — but he also had a soft spot for Shania Twain. Later in life, he came to enjoy just about every kind of music.
He attended Barclay School and Dryden High School; he had all the answers when it came to math and history. As a math whizz, he found enjoyment playing Sudoku in his free time. Anyone who knew him well would know how, whenever Kathy was about to get a talking or lecture, he would start with a slow, “Kath…” — followed by an ominous pause. That’s when you knew to try and quietly sneak away. Although he could give her a hard time, he was still Kathy’s biggest fan when it came to her singing, always there to encourage her.
A special memory of Ren was watching Jeopardy! together when he was younger — he seemed to know every answer, thanks to reading encyclopedias from A – Z.
A Private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
