June Alexander March 15, 1927 - May 1, 2025

June Audrey Yvonne Alexander (nee Miller)

March 15, 1927 – May 1, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the family of June Alexander announce her peaceful passing in her 99th year May 1, 2025 at her home at Princess Court.

Mom was born in Deloraine, MB to Areta and William Miller on March 15, 1927, moved to Quibell and eventually settled in Dryden with her parents and younger sisters Fay and Lola. June received her primary and secondary education in Dryden and then went to work at the Royal Bank.

After the war, June married Gordon Alexander and for a short time they moved to Sioux Lookout. After moving back to Dryden, Mom and Dad built their forever home on St. Charles Street in 1950 and shared it with their 3 children. Mom stayed at home to raise her children. She was a wonderful seamstress and worked out of her home doing alterations for many years. She remained in her home with minimal assistance until December of 2024.

June was predeceased by her parents William and Areta, husband Gord, sister Lola Scherban, daughter-in-law Joni Alexander, brothers-in-laws Bob Bridgwater, Andy Scherban, Ed (Babe) Alexander and Gord’s parents Thomas and Gertrude.

She is survived by her sister Fay Bridgwater, daughter Robyn Kunza (Ron), sons Randy (Giselle) and Pat. She leaves behind 6 Grandchildren, Barry (Lyn), Marc (SooKyung), Regan (Brian), Cory, Melanie (Darren) and Ryan (Kayla), as well as 8 great-grandchildren; Emmerson, Lila, Chase, Lynna, Nolan, Maria, Miller, and Georgia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom was very active enjoying numerous sports throughout her life. At the age of 14 she won DHS female athlete of the year, and she carried on with her love of sport in bowling, curling and later taking up golf. She enjoyed the social part of all these activities and always looked forward to the ladies’ golf luncheons that she still attended up until last year.

For many years, along with her pup (Chum), enjoyed her daily drive out to her camp on Thunder Lake to putter in the yard and relax on the beach and maybe go for a swim.

The family would like to thank the staff at Home Care, Dingwall Clinic and Princess Court for such wonderful care of our mom.

As per mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private internment will take place at a later date.

If any of June’s family or friends would like to make a donation in her memory, we would ask that it be made to the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind National Training Office and Training Center, PO Box 280, Manotick, ON K4M 1A3

On behalf of my mother Marge and our family we send our condolences on the passing of June. Mother talks fondly of June and Gordon and the fun they had after he and my father returned from overseas. It may be the end of that generation but they won’t soon be forgotten.

I remember at Christmas time. my dad (Allan Raslask) would ask June to go and buy my mom (Shirley) a few new outfits for him to give to her. And when my mom passed away, the first person that came to our home was June with a casserole . Take care Dianne

Robyn, Randy and Pat our family is thinking of your loss of Aunty June and we will miss her and we will also be thinking of the wonderful memories that our parents made together throughout their lives meeting up at the legion to socialize and dance the Saturday evenings away, mixed/mens/ ladies curling tournaments , bowling, and taking turns hosting Saturday night card games between Aunty June, Uncle Gord, Bill and Mary Jo Saskoley and Marg and Frank Spicer.
My brother Stu snd I would sit at the top of the stairs and were brought snacks and listen to old songs such as” I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill” and many more.
The pontoon boat trips on Wabigoon Lake to the island to stop in for games of lawn darts a visit and a few cold ones. and don’t forget the weiner roasts.
And then best of all the families went to Thunder Lake and the birthday parties and many family events took place there and the whole family took part I the celebrations and enjoyed it all so much.
Swimming at the beach, boat rides over to Tower Inn ( now known as Twin Towers,) , water skiiing, swimming at the beach and so much more.”
All the uncles and aunts, cousins enjoying weiner roasts and marshmallow roasts and no end of games).
There was no end of fun at Thunder Lake Camp where we shall always remember the family being together.
Aunty June, Aunty Lola Gramma Miller , my Mom and all of the uncles and the many cousins were always made to feel welcome there and we are grateful.
Aunty June was a loving Aunty and such a talented woman. She sewed beautiful clothing for her 3 children..and my happiness times were when Robyn would gift me her homemade beautiful clothes . My Aunty was an amazing seamstress.
And finally I was always amazed at her tremendous short and long term memory and she could name off anyone whoever lived in this town and their generations before and after them.
She was smart as a tack and she was my hero because she never lost interest in life and wanted to live every day to it’s fullest. and did.
When her eyesight and hearing diminished that never slowed her down..
My Gram Miller was very much like her . They never gave up and found ways to overcome anything in their way.
Aunt June and my Mom Fay were very close sisters as they were with their youngest sister Lola who we all called Aunty Duck.
These lovely ladies had a deep and loving bond between themselves including the last time Aunty June was able to come down and see Mom at PG from PC. a week before she passed on.
June Alexander will never be forgotten and always cherished..
    Miss you Aunty. .
    Love you so much
