It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandma, great grandma and friend at the age of 98 at the Dryden Regional Hospital.
She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 70 years, John, sons, Steven (Sherry), Theo (Mary Lou), Mike (Pam), grandchildren, Juli (Joel), Jennifer, Sarah (Shane), Jon (Reagan), Andrew (Cassi), Katie (Ben), great grandchildren, Henrik, Danika, Lily, Zoe and Georgia, as well as family in the Netherlands.
Theresa was predeceased by her son Jerome (1988), her parents, as well as her siblings.
Theresa was the second youngest of siblings and was born in Nieuwegein, Netherlands, where she met the love of her life John. She waited for him while he fought in the war in Indonesia, working in a jeweller’s shop until they could be married on June 22, 1954. Steven, Theo and Jerome were her joy and when they relocated to Saskatoon, Canada for John’s work, she discovered that she was pregnant with Mike which she said kept her busy and not lonely for her family back home. She hosted many family members over the years and they took delight in showing them all that Canada had to offer. They moved to Winnipeg, MB with John’s job and when he retired, they settled in Waldhof, ON until they moved next door to her son, Mike and wife Pam. Theresa loved to play pranks on her friends and younger brother when she was young and joke around while playing cards. She was a skilled seamstress and also made lots of knitted and crocheted items for her family. She and John would travel with her brother in Canada and still laughingly remember the time that they ordered a Shepherd’s pie and thought that they were getting a dessert, only to discover that it was a savoury meal instead. Theresa and John enjoyed their many outings over the years; cruises, trips to see the kids and grandkids, weddings, trips to the beach and campsites to enjoy a meal and watch the boats and people on the water. You had to drag them out sometimes, but when they were there, they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Theresa always had a big smile on her face and was so appreciative of everything you did for her.
Theresa’s family would like to extend a huge thank you to the personal support workers at Paramed who visited them daily and the staff and nurses at DRHC for the great care in making her comfortable during her last few weeks.
A Funeral Mass will take place on July 7, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the DRHC- Oncology Dept. P.O. Box 3003 Dryden, ON P8N 2Z6
