It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Enrichetta (Rita) Ulisse, who left us on February 24, 2025, at the age of 92. She was a beloved mother, Nonna, sister, aunt, and friend whose wisdom and kindness touched the lives of everyone she met.
Rita was born on August 6, 1932, in Gamberale, Italy. She was the eldest sister of Tullio, Lorenzo, and Tony. At the age of 29, she traveled to Canada by boat to join her brother Tullio, where she eventually met the love of her life and best friend, Giovanni. They were married on December 19, 1964, and settled in Vermilion Bay. In 1989, they relocated to Dryden, where they built a beautiful home and life together.
Rita worked as an exceptional cook at various establishments in Vermilion Bay and Dryden until her retirement at age 65. Even after retirement, she remained active, enjoying long walks throughout Dryden and the track at DHS. She cherished her coffee dates with her niece Silvana and friends Audrey and Judy.
Rita is survived by her daughters, Rose (Peter) and Joanna (Craig); her grandchildren, Brooke, Samantha, Cade, and Brett; her brothers Tony and Lorenzo; and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her husband Giovanni, her brother Tullio, sister-in-law Anna, and niece Maria.
Rita adored her family immensely. One of her quotes was, “Family is very important. Be kind and respectful. Work hard and make good choices. Get a good education and find a good job.”
A mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at the St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life. The family would like to express their gratitude to EMS, the nurses at DRHC (emergent and palliative care), and Dr. Bester for their exceptional care.
Rest in peace, Mom/Nonna/Sister/Zia. You will forever be in our hearts, and don’t worry—Joanna and Silvana will keep your promise.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you spend time with your family and friends.
