On March 23, 2023 Tullio passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He is now reunited with his precious wife Anna, and his cherished daughter Maria. Regretfully he leaves behind his children Carmela (Hughes) Bergagnini, Tom (Kelly) Bergagnini, and Silvana (Jeff) Edenburn along with his treasured grandchildren Torin, Kayla (Brad), Sienna (Bryce), Kiara Bergagnini, Chace (Sarah) Laffin, Barett and Everett Edenburn.

Tullio was born on April 20, 1935 in Gamberale, Italy.  He lived there with his siblings Enrichetta, Lorenzo, and Tony.  At 22 years old, Tullio crossed the Atlantic landing in Halifax to pursue a better life working for CP Rail. In Canada, learning the language was never his biggest concern as long as he worked hard and that he did to a fault.

On the dock in Wabigoon, Tullio met the love of his life Anna. They married December 12, 1964 and with that he was happy to add her family into his. From there, they settled in Vermilion Bay and began to build their legacy together.  In 1965, his first daughter Carmela was born.  Over the next years, their family grew with the addition of Tom, Maria and Silvana. With the growing family, Tullio took on more and more work to ensure they had the best life possible.  For decades, Tullio worked in a variety of settings most notably in the forestry sector. Through all this hard work he was able to purchase several properties in the area; this brought him immense pride.

In 1998, Tullio and his family purchased Fort Vermilion.  They worked to build the business into becoming a fixture of the community. Tullio could often be seen maintaining the property, bagging ice and putting together the biggest bundles of firewood in the area.  Tullio took tremendous pride in the success of the Fort right up until his final days.

After the sale of the Fort, Tullio tried to embrace retirement but could not sit still.  Whether it was “perfecting” his wine, tinkering in his garage, or having an evening Brava with his “brother” Eddie Carson, Tullio was always busy.

Tullio had been described as having a personality that was larger than life.  If you met him once, you certainly would not have forgotten him.  The days ahead will never be quite the same without him in our lives.

Arrangements entrusted to the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Avenue, Dryden, ON P8N 2X3.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dryden Community Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Alan Campeau officiating.

Interment to follow in the Dryden Cemetery.

    Carmela, Tom and Silvana and Family, We are so sorry for the loss of your “Tullio”. I first met Tullio when he married the love of his life, my dear cousin Anna. They will now be together as he wanted…he missed her so much. I am sure Anna was there to greet him with arms wide open and I know he will now rest in peace in the arms of our Lord Jesus and Anna right beside him, Maria will be there keeping them company.     We are so sorry to hear about your father’s passing. Your father had a great heart and was very kind. We really enjoyed our visits with him and your mother when we would stop in heading back to Vancouver. Words just can’t say enough but Know that you are all close in our thought.
