Mary Shorrock passed away peacefully October 20, 2023 in Princess Court, Dryden. Mary was born April 13, 1924 in Rossburn, Manitoba to Herb and Jenny Taylor. Mary grew up on a farm and went on to become a teacher with her first teaching position, a one room schoolhouse in Frogmore, Ontario. Mary was married to Allan Shorrock of Minnedosa, Manitoba who predeceased her in February 1978. Mary is survived by her two sons, Wayne (Jodi) and Doctor Robert (Gloria), grandchildren Sean, Chris (Erin), Aaron, Karlie (Sean) and Becky (Ben) as well as great grandchildren Arianna, Sebastian, Connor, Spencer, Evelyn, Sam, and Nathan.
Mary was a caring, compassionate woman, wife and mother who was also very involved in her community. Mary volunteered with the Dryden branch of the Canadian Cancer Society and was a very active member of the Barclays Women’s Institute.
Mary loved to travel which took her on bus tours through the United States, as well as touring parts of Europe, England, Scotland, and Norway.
Mary’s closest friend and soulmate, Clara Toft, who predeceased her, were inseparable. The two families celebrated many occasions together and Clara’s daughters, Rita (Robert), Marion (David), Astrid (Graham) and Ingrid (Kevin) were the girls she never had.
Mary grew up in rural Manitoba, moved to Southern Ontario to teach, returned to the family farm in Rossburn with her husband, started her family then relocated to Dryden where she worked in retail, teaching, raised her family and volunteered. Mary moved into Patricia Gardens and later became a resident of Princess Court.
Mary was a member of the Lutheran Church in Dryden and enjoyed the fellowship and worship for many years.
Mary loved to cook and bake, whether it was perogies by the hundreds for the Women’s Institute or making and sharing her baking with family and friends.
The family would like to thank the caring staff of Princess Court for their compassion and service to Mary during her residency. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Doctor Barrie for her service and support for Mary.
