June Ann was born on March 24th 1926 to parents Aden & Ruby Wagar, in the small prairie town of Big Beaver, Saskatchewan. She lived there with her three brothers until about the age of ten when the family moved to Dyment, Ontario living with her grandparents until their homestead was built.
Trudging to school that was about a mile away with her two older brothers was a memory she never forgot especially in the winter months when the snow was knee deep sometimes.
They later moved to Barclay close to Dryden where she took the rest of her schooling.
When she was a young teenage girl of about 16/17 she went to Winnipeg to work at the Hudson Bay Store during the war years in 1942, and remained there until the war ended in 1945, when she came home as there was a young man who would be returning home from the war and they were to be married.
She married Haakon Haukeness on March 2, 1946 and they lived in Vermilion Bay. In the early years of her married life, the summer months were spent with both June & Haakon working at Clarkes Tourist camp where she was the cook, and he was one of the guides. When their three sons Richard, Vernon and Len came along they decided to start a minnow business and this they ran for many years.
She later took her hairdresser training at Marvel’s Beauty School in Winnipeg and upon graduation returned home and became the first hair salon that Vermilion Bay had. She later owned two shops in Dryden, one in North Dryden which she later sold, and one downtown which she operated for about twenty five years.
In 1973, she married Fred Plomp and in retirement years spent the winters either going to Florida or south to Texas and they also took a couple cruises.
June was a hard working lady and never let it be said that grass grew under her feet.
She loved to knit, making beautiful sweaters for her boys when they were young, and for the grandchildren. She loved to crochet as well and she made beautiful tablecloths and doilies as her sisters will attest to.
June is predeceased by husbands; Haakon Haukeness and Fred Plomp, sons; Richard and Vernon also by one granddaughter and one great granddaughter. As well as her parents; Aden & Ruby Wagar and brothers; Clayton, Dick and Henry.
