Joseph Lassu November 25, 1936 - May 18, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our father Joseph Lassu who left us peacefully on May 17, 2024 at the age of 87.

Born in Hungary, Joe lived through the turmoil of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Seeking a better life, he courageously emigrated to Canada, where he found a new home and a fresh start.

In 1963, Joe married the love of his life, Bonnie. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three daughters: His love for his family was boundless, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and happiness.

For over 30 years, Joe dedicated himself to his work at the mill in Dryden.  Joe had a deep love for animals, which was evident on the family farm he owned. The farm was home to a variety of animals, but he had a particular fondness for horses. This passion was passed down to his daughters when he bought his first daughter a pony. This gesture cemented a shared love for horses among all his daughters. Joe fully supported his daughters’ equestrian interests, taking them to every horse show and ensuring they had the opportunity to pursue their passions. Joe was a loving husband and a devoted father.

He is remembered with love by his three daughters, Kathy Chimuk (Rob), Alice Lyle (Lorin), Debbie Lang (Karl), his brother Imre Lassu (Elizabeth), Sister Hilda Benczik, brother in law Bill Paterson, sister in law Gail Paterson, sister in law Erna Paterson six grandchildren, Tyler Chimuk (Faye), Todd Chimuk, Patrick Lyle (Analyssa), Ryan Lyle, Zachery Lang (Megan) & Emma Lang (Simeon), and one great grandchild, Oliver Lang and numerous nieces and nephews who cherish the memories and the lessons he imparted.

He was predeceased by his wife Bonnie (nee Paterson), his parents, Pal & Maria Lassu, his mother and father-in-law Robert and Hazel Paterson, brothers-in-law Jozsef Benczik, Keith Paterson, Robert Paterson and Jim Fenton, sister in laws Janet Fenton and Carol Paterson

Joe’s life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the enduring power of love and family. He will forever be remembered in our hearts.

Rest in peace Dad.  Your legacy lives on through those who loved you.
