Peacefully, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Jasbo passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Dryden Hospital with his sister by his side.
Jasbo, as he so loved to be called, was born June 5, 1945 to James and Margaret Duke at Port Arthur General Hospital.
He attended Queen Elizabeth, Central and Prospect Schools in Thunder Bay, ON moving to Dryden in 1958 where he attended Riverview and Dryden High School.
Jasbo was an enterprising young man. His first job was at the age of 10 years selling the News Chronical on the street corner, graduating to a paper route. Later, he worked at Harley’s Supermarket, Dryden Paper Mill and Extra Foods where he was proud to be the Union Steward.
Cooking was one of his passions and he took great delight in hosting parties and barbeques over the years. He also coached men’s and ladies baseball for years.
Being on the trap line with Johnny Higgins at Snake Bay was a highlight in his life, of course the ‘cocktails’ were a big part of it!
Jasbo was very proud of his home on Maple Road and was honoured to be able to host his sister’s, his brother’s and his niece’s wedding there.
Jasbo was a hardworking man and even with his illness, he went to work every day.
Jasbo was a character and will be missed by his family and friends. Gone but not forgotten.
Jasbo was pre-deceased by his father James Duke, his mother Margaret Labelle, step-father Henry Labelle and brother-in-law John Gingras.
Jasbo is survived by brothers; Herman (Jeanie) Labelle, Gene (Polly) Labelle, Lawrence (Suzette) Labelle, sisters: Dorothy Gingras and Joanne (Rick) Brouillette as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a great-great niece.
