It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Father and Opa, Herman Rottler, on February 4, 2024, at the remarkable age of 94. He passed at Dryden Regional Health Centre surrounded by family and friends. He maintained his dry sense of humor until the end, delighting in sharing jokes with the doctors and nurses who cared for him.
He began his extraordinary journey to Canada in 1954, initially settling in Fort Frances before making Kenora his home. It was there that he played an integral role in constructing the family’s first home while tirelessly working as an automotive and heavy equipment mechanic – a testament to his dedication to providing for his loved ones.
In 1968, the family made a home in Dryden, a community where Herman purchased a house and established lasting roots. He lived in the same residence on Wood Street for over 50 years. He meticulously maintained the home, preserving it as a time capsule of the 60s.
A skilled Machinist by trade, Herman had a remarkable talent for creating things. His garage was not merely a workspace; it was a haven where he poured his creativity into crafting various projects.
An avid outdoorsman, his love for hunting and fishing was unmatched, and he seized every opportunity to immerse himself in the beauty of the great outdoors. Frequently, he would be found with his family, fishing, hunting, and picking blue berries and mushrooms.
Herman is survived by his children: Klaus (Tracy) Rottler, Sandra Rottler, Herbert Rottler, and Peter (Nicole) Rottler. His grandchildren include Stephanie Rottler, Kurtis Rottler, Kristin (Tyler) Lawson, Katherine Rottler, Erin Rottler, Rebecca Rottler, Madison Rottler. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Archer, Emily, Oliver, and Jack. Special family friends Robin Corner and Judy Emisch.
He is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Else Rottler, his infant daughter (Eileen), sisters Helga Goerzen and Erika Kunisch, as well as his parents.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Dryden Regional Health Centre for the care and compassion they provided in the last few weeks.

February 7, 2024 at 12:25 amGoing to miss running into Herman at the grocery store. I remember he used to say he would buy us a case of beer if we (Peter Brian and Doug and myself ) could collect hockey sweaters that weren’t returned after the season. He was the minor hockey equipment manager for several years. What a great Man.
