Gwendolyn Mae Mckay, was born on February 3rd 1938 in Dryden, Ontario. She had a special bond with her parents, Evelyn and Bill White and rarely went a day without seeing them. Gwen was raised alongside her siblings Keith and Jimmy.
In 1956, Gwen married Ron and together they raised four children: Heather, Bill, David and Kim. She was a warm and dedicated mother who inspired her kids to be the best people they could be.
Gwen was the heart and soul of her family. She loved life, cherished life and embraced life. Gwen was the embodiment of class and kindness.
She lived next door to her son David and daughter-in-law Terry and three of her grandchildren. She was the best grandmother and loved to spend time with her six grandchildren playing cards and listening to Elvis.
Christmas was Gwen’s favourite time of year. Her traditions and spirit made the holiday special for the whole family. Her love of the season brought family home for decades.
She worked for 30 years at the Dryden Hospital in the administrative office. The lifelong friendships she made while working there brought her so much joy.
After retirement, Gwen couldn’t sit idle for long, so she went to work for several years at the Duke Street Convenient store. She enjoyed getting to know the customers, especially the kids.
Gwen loved anything with a score sheet. She was an excellent competitive bowler, enjoyed golf and playing euchre. Most of all, Gwen loved playing Bingo at Eagle Lake Bingo Palace alongside Bob and Laura Gardner and her best friend Madonna MacIsaac. Gwen had countless eagle lake friends who very much made her feel part of their community.
As she was a very social person, Gwen enjoyed going for lunch or coffee with friends. She also enjoyed entertaining in her home and took pride in always making her guests feel special.
Gwen was loved by her friends and family and will live in their hearts forever. To quote Don Henley, Gwen’s passing truly has left a “hole in the world”.
Gwen is survived by her children Heather (Glen), Bill, David (Terry), Kim and grandchildren Ashley (Brian), Meghan, Kyle, Scott (Alex), Sydney, Kevin and great-grandchildren Lola and Presley and sister Jimmy. She is predeceased by her brother Keith and sister-in-law Joan, brother-in-law Ted, her son-in-law Gary Thompson and daughter-in-law Madeleine Mckay.

I enjoyed working with her for all the time I was at the hospital, she was like a second mom sometimes. She even went skating with my son and I. I was always ready to go out for lunch when she called. We had many conversations about her family and pictures to go with it.
