After a long, hard fought battle with cancer, Garnet Lydor Sveinn Eyjolfson passed away June 7th, 2021 at the age of 76, peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Garnet was born on May 23, 1945 in Riverton, Manitoba, to Steve and Una Eyjolfson.
He is survived by his loving wife Shirley Eyjolfson; his son Garnet Eyjolfson and wife Colleen, grandchildren Alexandra and Hayden; son Malcolm Eyjolfson and wife Kerri, granddaughter Ashleigh; step-son Brad Coles and wife Cindy, grandchildren Linden and Marcie; step-daughter Shelley Moody and husband Richard, granddaughter Victoria; brothers Clayton and Roy (Angie); sisters Heather (Bob) and Lynn (James); sister-in-law Kathleen; and many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
Garnet is predeceased by his mother and father, sister Cindy, and grandson Bryce.
He finished his Grade 13 at Dryden High School in 1964 and proceeded to work in the mill for the following two years. In 1966, he joined the RCMP in Ottawa. His first posting was in Fort St. John, BC, in October 1966. Five years later, he left the RCMP to start a career in the trades. He worked as a certified floor installer until 2019, when he was diagnosed.
Garnet moved back to Dryden in 1995 to reunite with the love of his life Shirley; they married September 25, 1999. Over the years they made many family memories and travelled to a multitude of different destinations.
Garnet was always a helper. Whether it was a floor to be installed, a grandchild’s project that needed building, or hanging Shirley’s Christmas lights, he was the first one there to lend a hand. He also enjoyed fishing with his family and friends, where he was always the quietest fisherman. Garnet’s favorite place to fish was on Suzanne Lake with his best friends Ken Saville, Owen Callaghan, and Billy Pollock.
Garnet will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
