(Dorothy) Marie Wiebe
March 19, 1936 – July 1, 2023
Marie (née Cook) Wiebe was born in Virden, Manitoba but resided in Elkhorn, Manitoba until 1947, when she and her family moved to Waldhof. From there, she moved to Vermilion Bay in 1957. Marie married her husband George in 1959 and raised their three daughters there. She died in Abbotsford, BC.
Marie taught school for 13 years, worked as a bookkeeper for Barr’s Esso, and was the Municipal Clerk/Administrator for the Municipality of Machin for 22 years. Mom’s greatest accomplishment while she held this position was securing grants to build the two Senior Complex Buildings in the Municipality of Machin: one in Vermilion Bay and the other in Eagle River. Marie enjoyed outdoor activities, crafts, homemade canning and baking, and above all, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy.
Marie was predeceased by her husband George; parents Albert and Dorothy Cook; sisters Josie Muldrew, Doreen McLenon, Kathleen (infant); brother Albert (infant); grandson George Lancaster; brothers-in-law Jacob Wiebe and Klaus Gockel; sister-in-law Tina Wiebe. Mourning her passing are daughters Velda (Norm) Olding; Ruby (Marc) Wiebe; Wanda (Ron) Rhyner; sister Shirley (John) Daignault; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Mary Gockel and Anna Wiebe; brother-in-law John Wiebe; cousins, nieces, and nephews.
We are so very grateful to the staff of Mayfair Senior Living and Care in Abbotsford, where Mom spent her last seven months. They treated Mom with kindness, dignity and respect.

July 11, 2023 at 5:31 pmOur dear Marie, our neighbour for several years, We missed her when we moved to Brandon but I think she moved to BC that same year. We are happy her struggle with arthiritis is over. We know she didn’t waste time complaining about it but made the most of it. Miles have separated us but we often thought about her. Heartfelt sympathy to ALL her family, Herschel and Grace
