In loving memory of Donald Romas who passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020 after a long battle with cancer with his family by his side.
Donald was born April 10, 1954 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He had been living in Dryden and met Kim in Red Lake in 1996.
Donald is survived by his spouse Kim, step-daughter April (Corey), granddaughters Elizabeth and Ember that he loved dearly, siblings Jim (Helen), Gord, Patty (Gord) and Roger (Robin) and sister-in-law Chris.
Donald was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Margaret Romas and brother Gary.
Donald loved having tea parties with his granddaughters. When he filled up their cups with tea they would always say “that’s enough Papa!” He loved to fish and hunt and really enjoyed road hockey. Lots of smiles there. Many good times were spent with his best friend Doug Shakoskie from Winnipeg. They always competed with each other to see who would get the big fish first. They would bet one dollar for the biggest, the most and the smallest. Donald always felt sorry for Doug, “No fish, no money! Ha ha Doug!” Donald always said three dollars in his pocket always added up!
Donald always loved his football and never missed a grey cup game. He would travel to many places to watch them and never missed one. Also there was his hockey games. Many trips to Winnipeg and Kenora. One time the hydro went out in Dryden on a Saturday night, well off to Kenora Donald and Kim went! They rented a hotel room just for a hockey game. He truly enjoyed his sports. His best player was Wayne Gretzky. He would always say “That’s my player, 99”.
Donald owned and ran his own business for 38 years – D.M.R Enterprise Weston Bread. Always said “Rain or snow, the load has to go!”. He enjoyed every day on his job. Long hours and days on the highway that he loved. He would never miss a day. Always many long stories from all his customers that he adored.
Donald was never a carpenter but he tried his darndest to figure it out. He would call his oldest brother Jim or his youngest brother Roger and request their help to fix it. They never hesitated to fix or show him how to do it. With his sister Patty, Donald always liked to tease her but it was always a good laugh and fun.
Special thanks to Dr. Bester and Dr. Moir and all the nurses that took special care of my hubby Donald. I also extend a great big thank you to all that supported me and my family during this time.
