Donald James May 27, 1949 - July 18, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Brian James on July 18th, 2025, at the age of 76.

Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He leaves behind a legacy defined by quiet strength, unwavering love, and steadfast dedication to his family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Joanne, who was his constant companion and greatest support. Don was a proud and caring father to his daughter Sheri and his son Donny (Jody) of Thunder Bay. His grandchildren Jared, Riley (Ben), Jamee, and Kisha, brought him endless joy, and he was immensely proud of each of them.

Don is also survived by his siblings: Gayle, Tom, and Kirk (Dorthy), all of Kenora, and Gary (Brenda) of Vernon, British Columbia. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Wes and Dorren James, his brother Jesse James, and nephews Gary Jr., Darren, Danny James.

Born on May 27, 1949, in Kenora, Ontario, Don spent his childhood playing hockey and baseball. As a young boy, he worked at the local bowling alley and grew his skills for the game. He later took a job with Cocoa-Cola, where he began building a life for his young family. Don and Joanne welcomed their children, Donny and Sheri, during these early years.

In time, Don began working for Weston’s Bread Company, where he remained for over 40 years. His loyalty, reliability, and strong personality helped him build lasting relationships with both his customers and colleagues, earning the respect and admiration of many.

Don was happiest when surrounded by nature. He found peace and joy in fishing, a passion he eagerly shared with his children and grandchildren. Whether casting a line from the boat or sharing stories at family dinner, Don created countless treasured memories that will be held dearly by his family.

Fittingly, Don spent his final day doing what he loved, fishing on Eagle Lake. He brought home his limit in hopes of sharing his favourite meal the next day, a fish fry. It was a perfect day for Don, spent doing what brought him peace, pride, and joy.

He will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, quick wit, and deep love for those closest to him. His presence was a quiet but powerful source of comfort and guidance, and his passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Don’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Second Chance Pet Network, Box 343, Dryden, ON P8N 2Z1 or to the Dryden Food Bank, 62 Queen St. Dryden, ON P8N 1A4
