Dale Morton July 7, 1949 - May 30, 2024

It is with deepest sorrow, the family of Dale Morton announce his passing into his heavenly home. On May 30, 2024, Dale passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

Dale was born in Belleville, ON to Lewis and Marion Morton, the youngest of one brother and three sisters – the youngest sister being his twin. Having been raised on a farm, Dale developed a good work ethic. It was at a dance in Tweed where he met his wife, the beautiful Elaine Prevost. They were married in 1971 and were blessed with two children (Derek and Cheryl). They shared 53 wonderful years together.

After graduating from college, Dale started work with the Department of Land & Forest, soon to be re-named the Ministry of Natural Resources. His first job was in Dacre in the fire branch. In 1971, Dale and Elaine transferred to Fort Frances, ON, staying there for two years. The next and last transfer was to Dryden, ON, where he worked in the Fire Branch, Parks, and then as the Parks and Operations Co-Ordinator. After retirement, he took a year off and then worked at KC’s Tourist Camp for Wayne and Karla Clarke, which he always said was one of the best jobs he ever had.

Dale is survived by his wife Elaine, son Derek (Tamara), and daughter Cheryl (Don), grandchildren Joshua (Hope), Kolby, Ava, and Niko, great grandchild Riley, brother Richard (Gail), sisters Karen, June and Donna, mother-in-law Jeanette Prevost, brother-in-law Stephen (Debbie), sisters-in-law Dianne (Peter), Gail (Willy), Sheila (Dennis), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dale was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers-in-law Ted (Karen), Phil (June), and Jim (Donna), as well as his father-in-law Wallace Prevost.

A message from Elaine: “I fell in love with you in one moment. I married you because I needed a lifetime to tell you why.”

A Private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

I am a proud First Cousin to Elaine ( Prevost ) Morton. My father , (d. 2001) and Elaine’s mother are brother and sister. I wish to offer my heartfelt condolences to Elaine, together with her immediate family, during this time of bereavement. I am so sorry to learn of your loss.

    When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand
The angel said my place was ready, in heaven far above
And that I would have to leave behind, all those I dearly love
But when I walked through heaven’s gates, I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me, and told me “Welcome Home”
So, when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart
For every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart

Thank you Bob for these very kind words. I have read the bereavement poem many times here. It always makes me cry, but is worth the read. Thanks for being here for me and for the whole Lafreniere family over the years. You are the “Best”.

    Elaine and family
I worked briefly for Dale back 1979-81 when he was super at Blue Lake PP. I worked on Fire during the summer and the other branches during the off- season. My wife (Janet) and I stayed in your cabin with you one weekend when I was Park Warden for a short while. Dale was a great guy to work for, always keeping his cool. I learned a lot in a very short while . Our kids are Derek and Cheryl as well.

Shirley and Lorne…..so very good to hear from you and thank you. Dale left us very quickly and he is so missed. He suffered greatly; he needed the release that death brings, and for that we are truly grateful.

Dear Brenda……thank you for your condolence message. Dale and you did share a work history of many years and I know there would be many stories to be told. He has been gone 2 months, I can still hardly believe it. God rules and we have to accept it. All the best to you and your family.

Hello Sylvia…..thank you for your caring thoughts. An empty void here at our house now and much silence is left. Memories left with us, but life never to be the same again. We are grateful he never was sick in his life up until 2 years ago and is now at peace. Hoping all is well with your family.

I worked with Dale as a younger person at the MNR in the Dryden District in and around 1993- I moved from Kenora. He left a great impression on me as a positive person and that picture here of him is how I remember him- smiling. Be in peace Dale and my thoughts are with your family.
