Christa Derouin (Lands) of Migisi Sahgaigan First Nation passed away December 25th, 2025 2:35am (EST) at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre – Intensive care Unit due to respiratory complications and heart failure which was amplified by her long battle with kidney failure. Christa truly was a fighter and a very strong brave woman and will be remembered by many as such.

Christa Louise Derouin was predeceased by her parents Robert Lands of Eagle River/MacIntosh, Ontario and Rosalie Lands (Kavanaugh) of Migisi Sahgaigan First Nation. Christa was also predeceased by her beloved daughter Courtney Leigh Barkman and her son Gabriel Derouin of Migisi Sahgaigan First Nation. Siblings: Stella Montour, Shirley Lands, and George Lands. Her dear Pomeranian Missy-Moo. Along with her nieces, nephews, and dear friends who she held special connections with.

Along with NUMEROUS other nieces and nephews who she held close to her heart and she loved immensely; many of which reciprocated that love and considered her a “second mom” or “sister”.

Christa also had many cousins, friends, and caregivers she especially enjoyed. She became close with her long-distance medical drivers who she spent many hours with, and the renal nurses at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre she shared many wonderful stories and appreciated the care and dedication of all. A special thank you to Dr. Davenport from the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.

Christa’s wishes are to be cremated and have her ashes spread at her “happy place” her and her husband’s camp north of Savant Lake, Ontario. Their camp is where she loved to spend her time any chance she got, and her summers where she enjoyed fishing, camping, and just being “off the grid” with family. “Remember, Christa Derouin loves you all”.
