Brian Michael Solomon
March 30, 1964 – August 17, 2022
It is with profound grief and sorrow we announce the peaceful passing of Brian Solomon, aged 58, after a valiant battle with cancer on August 17, 2022, at the DRHC surrounded by his loved ones.
In his younger years, Brian could be found on a hockey rink, or playing chess, or competing on “Reach for the Top”. Blessed with a beautiful mind and a photographic memory, Brian became an avid reader and obtained his own library card at the age of 2 ½. He was an incredible historian who could recall all the WWII battle details that his grandfather [Nikola (Mike Sr.) Solomon] had fought in. As a lifelong Beatles fan, Brian owned just about every album recorded and could tell you any fun fact about the band.
Most of his life was spent in Dryden. The family lived in Atikokan in the 60s and 70s. His high school years were spent in Fort Frances where he made lifelong friends. Dave Mitchell, Rob Ward, Brad Benniger and Rob Frenette, to name a few. All are grateful they were able to get together last summer. In his later years, Brian worked at the family business as a machinist, then as part of the essential parts team.
To his delight, he was blessed with a daughter in 2006. Saveta was his pride and joy, often attending her athletic and school events. Brian could be found at work showing off her numerous ribbons. Medals, and trophies. He and Saveta were close, both sharing the same sense of humour.
Brian’s passing has created a great loss to family, friends, and co-workers.
Brian is survived by his daughter Saveta Solomon and her mom Cheryl, mother Alice Solomon, brother Clinton (Johanna), sister Debra Hatfield (Lorne), nieces and nephews John Solomon (Caroline), Kevin Solomon, Grayson Hatfield (Taylor), Kelsey Paterson (Dave), Daniel Shaffer, stepdaughter Ashley and Shayla.
Brian was predeceased by his father George Solomon in 2020, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and his grandparents.
A heartfelt thanks to the DRHC staff and Dr. Wittig and Goulet, and nurse Peter for his tender care.
