With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the passing of Barry “Shep” Shepherd, who passed away peacefully at the Dryden Regional Health Centre surrounded by loved ones on May 8, 2023.
Barry was born on September 20, 1938, to Almon and Pearl Shepherd in Dryden, ON.
He grew up in Dryden and attended Albert Street School and Dryden High School.

Barry worked for the Dryden Paper Company working his way up to camp foreman. In 1974 Barry left the company and became a Safety Inspector for the Ministry of Labour. Barry was an entrepreneur at heart and left the Ministry of Labour and began his journey in business. He started several businesses that are still in Dryden today including one of Dryden’s landmarks, The Chip Box.
Throughout his life Barry enjoyed many hobbies such as sailing, traveling, gardening, cooking and bee keeping. Barry’s passion of history lead him to being a part of the Historical Society of Dryden. He loved to educate and share the family genealogy with his children and grandchildren.
Barry was an elder and a long-standing member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Dryden.
In his retirement Barry enjoyed carving, cooking, gardening, and raising pigeons.

May 11, 2023 at 3:59 pmBarry’s kindness towards me when he first started dating my sister Bobbi created a lifelong bond of friendship. I treasure the memories of the annual family reunions that only stopped when health issues became a problem.
It is wonderful to see Barry’s exceptional entrepreneurial spirit being carried on in sons Chris and Andy and with his grandchildren.
The world feels like a lonely place without Barry and Bobbi.
