In loving memory of Alison Jean Szabo, who passed away peacefully in Dryden on June 5, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Alison was born July 1, 1963 and grew up in Oxdrift. She attended Oxdrift school, Dryden High School and Lakehead University before starting her 36+ year career with the Ontario Provincial Police. During her career, she held multiple positions and one of her most momentous duties was as a scribe at the G7 Summit, in Muskoka in 2010.
In her youth, she and her horse, Cricket spent many weekends exploring the countryside with her group of Oxdrift girls. She was a true country girl. She could shoot a gun, drive a stick shift and even played goalie for her older brother and his friends. Having a true passion for baseball, she could play any position on the field. She never backed down from a challenge, despite the bruises, wounds and surgeries that followed.
She and her husband, Jim started dating on the baseball field and enjoyed 32 years of marriage. They were blessed with two boys, Brenden and Blair. In the years that followed Alison spent most of her time at cold hockey rinks and dusty ball diamonds, all over the country, being the boys’ biggest fan. Free time was spent at Blue Lake, Aaron Park and most recently, her dream retreat at Thunder Lake. Hot vacations took them to Florida, the Dominican, Mexico and many more.
Alison is survived by her husband, Jim and her sons Brenden (Brooke) and Blair (Kyla). She is also survived by her mom, Fran Blair, sister, Lori Sanders (Ken), sister-in-law Kim Blair, father-in-law, Link Szabo, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her dad, Bill Blair, her brother, Steven Blair, her mother-in-law, Reta Szabo and her treasured dogs, Darby and Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dryden High School Athletic Association or the Dryden Minor Hockey Association.

June 11, 2024 at 11:05 pmI first met Ali when I came to work in Ignace in 2010. From that point until she retired, I would get to see her with various Association events. Ali was great at her job and often held things together for Branch 17. Ali was always kind and helpful and I was privileged to have known her. Her laugh and love of life was something others could strive for. Thanks for the great smiles and laughs! Ali will be missed but anyone who knew her or met her is better for that meeting. My condolences for the family for their loss. Please know how Ali touched many lives in such a great way!

June 16, 2024 at 1:11 pmTears in my eyes and pain in my heart. Oh Alison, you were a shining Oxdrift star and my childhood and adolescent memories are inextricably linked with you and your family. Camping with our parents, riding our horses with the gang, playing Twister while our folks partied upstairs, baseball tournaments, on and on. Your family will miss you terribly.
